OK, so here's the deal. What with being in a place where I could not freely spend my money, as well as being paid alot extra for being there, I have managed to save a bit of money. Here's the question: What would you do if you had ten grand you could spend in any way you wanted? It might sound like a frivolous question, but I'm being serious...... well, ok maybe not totally serious, but you get the idea. I have a few ideas what I would like to do with the money, ranging from saving for the inevitable money crunch that goes with college, all the way to a lifetime supply of cheetos and Fanta (why is it Fanta?? Cause it's Fantastic!!). I'm just looking for fresh ideas, maybe someone can think of something I haven't thought of yet, who knows. It might also be fun to see what others would do with it. _________________ Under construction!!! |

Do you own a house? That is a good way to get started in that venture. _________________

No, no house pwnage yet, and since I'm getting out soon, I'm envisioning a bit of instability in my transition, although I'm hoping to keep that at a minimum. I guess that could be a second part to my question, what should I do when I get out? I'm planning to start college this spring, since I won't have time to register, get out, and apply for financial aid before the fall semester. The only flaw I see in my plan so far is that I still have no idea what I really want to do or study. Eight years of having a stable, if not enjoyable, job has bred complacency. The only thing I am certain is that I don't want to do the same job once I get out. College seems to be the best thing I can come up with right now, but even that feels like a delaying tactic to me. I guess the nice part is that with my having served in the military and participated in a few foreign campaigns, college will be very cheap no matter where I decide to go. Ahhhhh decisions decisions...... _________________ Under construction!!! |

College? Hey...I can always use another roommate....
As for the ten grand...I'd look into buying an old house near a campus somewhere. Fix it up a little bit and rent it out to college kids (get their parents to co-sign). Since college dorms are a huge rip-off, you can get away with charging quite a bit. It'll be quite a bit of work (maintance and such) but chances are you'll make your money back in 3-4 years. Then you own a house! _________________

That would be the biggest waste of money one could invest in cause College kids + House=Partys=Trashed investment. Constant repairs since you will be liable for it's upkeep.

Vega$
Binion's Horse Shoe

winner = $350,000
Loser = Damn what a stupid idea.... where's that MoFo Sully at. Im'a gonna shoot his goat.
Better idea. Saving's until the inevitable market rebound, then invest 70% on low risk, 30% on higher risk, higher yield. Then, if life deals you crap, you've got a little bail out money. Trust me, I know of what I speak. _________________

Go to college and get the general education classes out of the way during that time you can see what to major in.
House is a good investment that will allow you write offs in taxes. You can always rent it for more then the payment.
T-Bill or Goverment bonds that will rotate on availablity every 3 to 6 months. The longer the higher interest. Stock is a little unstable but the new tax laws look good.
Don't blow it on a car (which is a loss, not an investment).
You have a head start in life right now and what you do will determine how your future is shaped.
Good place to be in.
Good Luck do you have earned your position that your in. _________________
