Just found this this morning. Don't know if it was posted before, but I figured I'd share it anyway.
For all of you who havn't configured your rate, cl_rate, cl_cmdrate, and cl_updaterate, or would like to tweak it more, I've found a nice formula for determining the correct numbers to use.
rate = your download speed times .9 then divided by 8
cl_rate = your upload speed times .9 then divided by 8
cl_updaterate = your rate divided by 175
cl_cmdrate = your cl_rate divided by 20
If you don't know what your download and upload speeds are, just go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest
If you use your speeds in kb's, then be sure to add 2 decimal places after you finish all the math (the numbers will be read in bytes)
That should be it then This formula isn't perfect every single time, so raise or lower the numbers if you aren't satisfied. Also, be sure to take note of your old rate and etc, just in case this for some reason doesn't work. Enjoy! _________________

I got this:
rate= 3991.95
cl_rate= 2402.55
cl_updaterate= 22.811142857142857142857142857142857.....
cl_cmdrate= 120.1275
Am I supposed to round it? _________________

For cl_updaterate, yes. Each command has 6 0's after the decimal point, s you can place 6 numbers if you feel like it. GO ahead and round all of them if you want though. _________________

i don't completely understand this formula. for rate and cl_rate are we supposed to multiply our speeds by .9 or what? _________________

Yes. For example, my download speed is 1002 kbps. So......
1002 x .9 = 901.8
901.8 / 8 = 112.725
112.725 kbps is my rate, but since HL reads it in bytes, I need to move the decimal place over to the right twice.
So the rate I enter into the actual game is 11272
And Stevo, I think you messed up somewhere on yours. Your rate and cl_updaterate seem normal, but your cl_rate and cl_cmdrate are much higher than they should be for a 56ker. _________________

Don't you mean 3 decimal digits, as in mulitplying by 1000? Otherwise I should only have a rate of 400 _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Here is what I got:
rate = 4162.5
cl_rate = 1575
cl_updaterate = 23.7857
cl_cmdrate = 78.75 _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Sounds pretty close I have seen things that say 10,000 to 20.00 for rate for cable/dsl and cl rates 30-50. _________________

Download: 164 kbs
Upload: 9 kbs
rate: 18450
cl_rate: 1013
cl_updaterate: 105
cl_cmdrate: 51
this is on one-way cable internet, i think. |

Those numbers seem pretty high. I'm not really sure about cable, though.
Anyway, I used the formula and it screwed up my speed. I had a latency of like 3000. I couldn't remember what it was before, but thx to danno for saving me! _________________

ok here is waht i get for down/up
2003-06-15 14:12:55 EST: 3090 / 486
Your download speed : 3090842 bps, or 3090 kbps.
A 377.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 486499 bps, or 486 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
now on the math part do i do the it to the kbps number then add decimals or just use the bps number right from the get go????
ok did it as your example and heres what i get with the deciamls moved in the end
rate=347625 before decimals/347.625
cl_rate=54675 "" "" /54.675
cl_updaterate=312
cl_cmdrate=15.6
just does not seem right but going to try and enter them now
will not take the cl_rate can only be 4places before it nedds the decimal should i leave it 9999.0000??
and that updaterate gave me serious choke made it 20 again but left the others
as u can see math and tweaking in console not my strong point _________________

Just do the calculations from the bps and forget all the decimal moving stuff. _________________

Whoever designed this game sure screwed things up. With TFC it was so simple. I have never had to mess with my settings as much as I have with this mod. Thx for the tips VP. _________________
