Here is some help for installing custom maps. Winzip is king so if you don't have get it HERE. Its free

You will have a better result with this program, but mainly its what I'm familiar with!

Choose the Classic interface as your default window. Now your ready.

Left click on your new maps zip file that you want to install.

This opens the zip and lets you see whats in it. Now look for a read me file.

If there is one (sometimes there are more than one) click on it and it will open.

Read it looking for installation instructions. Assuming this map has them

put the files in the folders as directed by highlighting them one file at a time.

then hit extract

When the next screen appears first make sure you check mark the boxes, all files and use folder names.

Then browse to the folder the instructions gave you. When you have the right folder showing click on Extract again.

Move on down the list of files repeating installation until all files have been installed.

If no installation instructions are included in the read me try this.

If its just a .bsp install by extracting it into your sierra/half-life/TFC/maps folder.

If its a larger zip with multiple files highlight all of them (use the Control and a key)

click extract, when the next screen appears select your half-life/TFC folder

and click on extract.

Boot up a lan game and look in the map selection area for your map. If its there your all set.

If not return to the original Zip and start the process over again.

When you get to the selection of destination folder move up one to sierra/half-life.

Click on extract again when it asks to replace files say yes. As you click yes on each file you will run across the one that was left out in your previous attempt. It will install automaticaly.

When you have finished start a lan game and look for the map in your create game window.

You should be a happy fragger now. Enjoy running around your new map!

Heres some odds and ends.

WinZip will remember your folder selection, making the next map easier to install.

WinZip has a default folder to extract to so make sure you always select a location where you want the files to go to.

Everyonce in a while a map just won't work. Don't ask me why but they are very few so double check your work if your having trouble.

After a few maps you will find that all it takes are a few clicks and your done.

And as always there may be other ways but this is mine your mileage may vary.

Good Luck and we will see you for the next custom map night.

Whoooper

Explain the whole process out and maybe I can assist you. Some maps automatically put files in certain folders.

If a map doesn't show up in your Create Game window, you should still be able to load it. Just start a LAN game on another map, then go to the console and enter "map [mapname]". It will switch to the other map. I have to do that to load Turkeyburgers, Fishburgers, and a few others.

Some alternatives to WinZip (I can't stand all the 'Would you like to register?' and 'Would you like to use WinZip classic' stuff)

Aladin Stuffit: My favorite b/c its free and extremley easy to use. This one won't use the 'same foler' features but its good for unzipping b/c all you have to do is double click the file, no menus to wade through.

WinRAR: Handles many different types of compress files including zips. Limited trial unless you can find a crack for it.

WinACE: The best (I think so) of the bunch for features and usablity/interface. Same limited time.. you'll need a crack. This one might be worth the registration money though.

Yes exactly, thats what winzip does. The only thing is that not all maps tell you where to put their files. Using the above steps insures the files will get to the correct location. If the program dosen't have "use folders" I'm not sure if you will get them into the right folders. you will have to guess.

winzip only asks once if if you want to use classic or wizard. The wizard is like a help file. Once you choose classic you won't be prompted again.
The part about buying the licence is a small price to pay for using it with full function for free. All you do is click on "I agree" it's just like clicking enter and your working.

AssWhooper does the game work after you have installed it?
