Hey, everytime I try to get into a game, I connect to the server, i can hear the sounds of people fighting, and then just as the screen is changing... DOD shuts down and I'm back at windows.

I have Windows XP, I used to play this game a lot, but wasn't able to for a couple months, and now I just installed counter-strike and downloaded the new patch for cs and for DOD... For my Video settings I'm using the Software Mode at like 800... I tried Direct 3d as well... same problem with each. My Video Card doesn't support Open GL. I have no clue what the problem could be.

Any Suggestions?

That happens a lot. Have you tried connection using HL Protocol or All Seeing Eye to connect? I've also heard that XP seems to have some problems with HL. Try one of those, it usually solves problems like that.

I have XP and have had no issues with any HL program or mod. I created a quick launch for all ville servers. All I do is click the icon in my task bar and away I go right into the game. If you add to your IM I can help you do it.

I have XP with a firewall and had a problem like this. I fixed it by;

Do you have a fire wall running?

Try shutting it down or set it up again.

The windows XP firewall can sometimes screw up and need to be reloaded (even if its disabled) by changing the setting to off/on. Shut down the computer and go back in turn it on/off then shut down again then restart.

Let us know if this helps.

ok the All Seeing Eye, seemed to work... I got into a cs server, but I can't get into any DOD... I don't think it shows those servers... must not be updated yet. So I still can't play that mod.

The other ideas sounded good, where do I go to turn off the Windows XP firewall? I didnt see it in internet options.

btw thanks for all the great replies!

All seeing eye shows all games out there including DOD. If for some reason you dont see it in the bar to the left go to view/options/games and add it from the not installed menu.

Whenever I want to play a game, I add a server by getting the IP address and clicking the add server button and putting in the IP. Then I can add it to one of the favorites folders. I get the IP's for the ville servers from the front page. Just click on a server from the list on the top right and it will give you all the info including an IP. That's how I do it and it seems to take less time than finding them from the list.

Adding a quick launch short cut is even quicker. I click the icon once and away I go into the server.

That's nice, but I like ASE because it gives me information about the servers. If one is down or something, I'll know ahead of time. I also like to go to the server where the most regulars are.

HLSW gives me the server info. Then when I want to connect I just click my quick launch.
