Infogrames Renamed To Atari

Rumors have been circulating lately about a possible name change for gaming company, Infogrames. This morning, the company sent out a press release informing the media that the name change has been put into effect and has been changed to Atari.
Infogrames has released Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Championship, Neverwinter Nights, and Stuntman under the Atari name within the past few months. The next title, Enter the Matrix will also contain the new name.

"It's the perfect moment in our history to make this change," continued Bonnell. "Next week we'll be launching Enter The Matrix, an extraordinary game which has redefined the Hollywood license, setting a new standard for the convergence of games and films. The 'break the mold' approach we took with Enter The Matrix exemplifies the very personality Atari has always represented and captures the personality of our Company today, from game development to deal-making to partnerships and so on. Perhaps the greatest part of the Atari legacy is the recipe for creating games that capture an audience's imagination: creative ideas, the talent to bring them to life, and the passion to do so. Those elements have never been more abundant within our company than they are right now. We have the strongest lineup of properties we have ever had, deep ties with some of the world's most talented game developers, and an excitement about the future that's palpable."

Atari will be at E3 and Gaming Horizon will have a full report on what they plan to show shortly. Expect hands-on impressions as well.

This explains so much. I was playing Missile Command the other day, and no matter how many times I hit the fire button it just kept sending out weapons inspectors. Not much I could do but sit back and watch helplessly as the enemy rained French-made artillery on me. And those warheads weren't filled with croissants, let me tell you.
