|
|
Heya folx, just wanted to pass the word that we have had some severe thunderstorms with winds from 30 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour along with torrential rain and flash flooding.
Quote: | From Local News Channel 19:
As of 9:45 a.m. NewsChannel-19 rain gauges showed 5 inches of rain. Those totals continue to rise and the conditions continue to change. |
My uncle's own home is now sitting in 2 feet of water (located towards the downtown area of Huntsville). I haven't heard from Robert E, but his home is located on the top of a hill. His family should be fine...
My wife and I live in a 2nd floor apartment and the drainage seems to be working fine.
A word of advice to anyone who may experience this type of weather, i.e., Flash Flooding, DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE ACROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS! There has already been a fatality in a county near ours. The person tried to cross a bridge that was under water and their vehicle was washed into the creek, which of course now is a river, where it sank, drowning the driver.
Take care and I will keep you updated as I hear more... _________________ JohnCarter, Warlord of Mars

He is on the north side of Huntsville in a subdivision on the side of Chapman Mountain. Well, above any possible flood levels... _________________ JohnCarter, Warlord of Mars

Yes so far this season has been odd for us DFWers. The Thunderstorms have been scarce and usually pass over us before dropping the rain. So far no Tornandos, just one that formed up but didn't touch down. We know what you are going through JCOM and God bless you guys hope everything turns out ok. Especially better then the people north of us. I heard one tornando that was 200 mph and went on a 400 mile destruction path through Arkansas and Tennessee.
Bama is having a wierd weather year eh JCOM. First an earthquake and the usuall flooding and tornandos. What next a hurricane for the trifecta. |

Didn't Hurricane Opal stay intact all the way from the Gulf Coast to Chattanooga once? Basically going over Alabama the whole way. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

i got a nice piece of that as well, i was at work and the rain stopped, sun came out, so i was like "ok good time to go and get the water coolers" so i take a golf cart and head out to pick them up... then the sky turned yellow, the clouds turned around and the storm came back, in a matter of less than 3 minutes.... some REALLY close lightning scared the crap out of me so i tunred around and started to head back, and it just started POURING... the rain was comign sideways, from the waist down was soaked becasue i was onyl wearing my waterproof jacket, glad i had that... flooding is no fun at all, hurricane floyd did some major flooding in my area, and my family was moving and had a lot of boxes in my grandmas basement, which got 4' of water in it... we were able to get most of it up and out of it but that was some wet boxing... a few towns cloer to rivers and such had whole buildings under water, eek that was bad... hope alls well down in AL _________________ my pic host-age died!
