Baseball games are fun to go to, regardless of the team, eventhough I liked baseball alot better when players would play for one team their entire career (mostly), back in the stone age |

You can win the division this year. It won't matter. All is hopeless. Neither Chicago baseball team has won ANY playoff series since 1917. Ths Cubs lost the series last in 1945. The White Sox lost in 1959. Since the division split in 1969. The Cubs lost in the NLCS in 1984, 1989, and then the Wild Card in 1998. The Sox lost the ALCS in 1983, 1993, and then lost the first round in 2000. So if ANY Chicago baseball team makes the playoffs. In Vegas I'll bet the house the other way.
Lastly as a Chicago collective. The Chicago owners are by far the WORST owners in sports. If you ever check out ESPN's Sportsnation where they rank all the professional teams. Out of the five Chicago teams the Cubs are ranked the highest at 86 out of 119 teams. To make it worse. The Green Bay Packers were ranked #1.
Further proof: Owners
Chicago Cubs - The Tribune Co. could outspend the Yankees if they wish. The Tribune Co. got "grandfathered" in to where they are the last company in sports where all their revenue is in house. They own the team, the TVB station WGN, the radio station WGN AM 720, and the newspaper The Chicago Tribune. So unlike the Yankees. They don't have to negotiate with the YES network. The funniest moment for the Cubs was when Lee Elia threw his tirade against the Cub fans. Look for it on Kazaa. It's Bobby Knight funny. The dumbest manager is still Jim Essian. The Cubs would be lose 12-1. All he would say very nicely is "Tomorrow we will play a major league game."
Chicago White Sox - The lack of fan support comes from Jerry Reinsdorf refusing to spend money like he's in Chicago rather than Milwaukee. He put himself in this hole when he was the backbone of the 1994 strike which cancelled the World Series. His team had the second best record in baseball. The Montreal Expos never recovered either. They had the best record in baseball. Let's not even talk about the upper deck at Comiskey. They are such geniouses that they decided to face the ballpark SouthEast. That gave you the beautiful view of the Robert Taylor homes in the hood across the highway. If you would've face it NorthEast. You would've gotten a view of downtown Chicago (if you don't put up those gay lightpoles. The location itself of Comiskey is actually pretty safe. Lastly if you heard of Sox Manager Terry Bevington. This guy was dumber than dirt. In his acceptance of the job, he said. "I'm confident because I'm confident because I'm confident." He also called for a pitching change when there was no one warming up in the bullpen. They also showed him on national TV struggling to get Gatorade out of the Gatorade cooler.
Chicago Bears - Cheap and the McCaskeys. They threatened to move the Bears to the second worst city in America. Gary, Indiana out of all places. There is nothing redeeming about the area there. It looks like Gotham City with a higher crime ratio. The only reason Detroit is a worse city is because it's a major city. We can also talk about the bad hirings and the bad draft picks. We can talk about the Bears always being bad. Do you know that they call the 1971 Bears team the best 1-15 team ever? They actually say that those Bears gave effort! We can also talk about Dave Wannstedt and his awesome press conferences.
Chicago Bulls - Six championships and they dismantle the team one to two years early. Why? They were ready for the "challenge" of rebuilding. Only a Chicago owned team would do something like this (OK the Padres and Marlins did it.) It's really because they didn't want to pay Phil Jackson, Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman another year in the luxury tax. People celebrated when Krause stepped down as GM.
Chicago Blackhawks - "Dollar" Bill Wirtz still refuses to broadcast home games on TV to this day. He has lost one full generation of fans. He is also the richest owner in all of hockey. This is an origional six team that no one in the city cares about. They are the last team to get mentioned in any local sportscast. There's almost more people going to see the AHL Chicago Wolves. He also has a habit of letting star players walk when they are due a contract. Bobby Hull, Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour, and Steve Larmer were exmaples of this. Brett Hull used the Hawks as leverage when they tried to sign him. Hull won the Cup last year along with Ex-Hawk Chris Chelios in Detroit.
You can't argue any other city being worse.
Boston - The Red Sox try to win. They have still have the cheap Bruins, but the Pats and Celts make up for it. Even if the Celts GM ain't bright.
L.A. - You may have the Clippers and the failure of getting a NFL team...Angels, Dodgers, and Lakers anyone?
Arizona/Phoenix - You have the Cardinals owner Bill Bidwell. Jerry Colangelo brings you playoff NBA Basketball and the DiamondBacks. The World Champs of 2001.
S.F./Oakland/San Jose - The Sharks new owners are cheap. Oakland has no support in spite of a good team. The Giants have a great park witha fan friendly owner. They also have the Niners which is still a good franchise.
Detroit - The Tigers may challenge the loss record of 120. Detroitans don't like the new park. Itlich will spend money on the Wings, but not on the Tigers. The Pistons have been rebuilt and have come back to force game 7 against the Magic in Detroit. The Lions were smart enough to dump good ole Marty after giving the sad Bears an easy win in Champaign. They now got Mariuchi. The Wings have won a cup or three '97, '98, and '02 in spite of this years playoff failure.
Milwaukee/Green Bay - Even of the Brewers are hopeless. You still have the Packers and the Bucks who make the playoffs.
Tampa Bay - Even if they Rays are bad. At least they are in the right direction. The Bucs kinda won the Super Bowl.
Miami - The Heat play in the middle of nowhere and are bad. The Marlins are the worst PR disaster since winning it all in '97. You have the Dolphins and the signiture Dave Wannsetdt choking every year in December and Playoff time. It still isn't Bear bad. At least the Panthers made the Cup final in '96 against the Avs.
Cincinnati - The only city to maybe challenge or beat Chicago in terms of bad. They only have two teams, but they are the Bengals and the Reds. The Bengals are still the worst franchise in football. Maybe Marvin Lewis can turn it around. No Bengal head coach has ever gotten another head coaching gig anywhere since Sam Wyche made a bad Tampa team worse. That's over ten years ago. The Reds may have a new not so hot stadium in a small market. Their pitching sucks and their owners are cheap. They still won the World Series with the Big Red Machine in the 70's twice and upset the Athletics in '90 with the Nasty Boys in a sweep.
No sports town is worse than Chicago with ownership. If you didn't want to read all of this. Just trust me then. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

Heh, interesting read Frag. If you hate the white sox ownership so much, why do you keep supporting them? Or do you just support the franchise? |

Well, I've been to tons and tons of sports events, and my 2 favorite arenas are:
Xcel energy center--the place is a palace, but I think the cushiness makes the fans soft
Mankato Minnesota's "All Season's Arena"--Back in the early 80's, the Division II NCAA hockey games there rocked. Seating for about 300, and 500 or more would pack into the place every game. Sometimes atmosphere and educated fans can take a $hi7-hole and turn it into a palace.
I've been to the H.H.H. Metrodome about 7 bazijillion times, and the only thing about it that I'm proud of is that it's still named "Hubert H. Humphrey"... not "random corporate sponsorship"...
I've also been to SkyDome and Fenway... SkyDome is nice, extremely cheap for food, but it's a bit bland... Fenway is a dump. An armpit with a ton of tradition. |

Sometimes I don't know. There's been talk here in Chicago how the pitching staff gets treated like second class. They treat the hitters better than the pitchers. Ex-Sox Keith Foulke and Sean Lowe haven't had too many nice things to say. Foulke treated getting out of Chicago like being released out of prison to a franchise that cares about pitchers. This franchise is ass-backwards. Hitting can't carry you to a title but pitching can.
The only way the Sox will win the division this year will be because KC and Minnesota give it to them. _________________ Yes, I'm still around
