Ok, i've asked this before but it pretty much got overlooked...I'm having trouble maintaining my system resources and its causing me to constantly have to cold boot my computer after it freezes up. Does anyone have any suggestions for anythign I can look into or change that might help this. I know it has to do with number or type of programs opened, but my system comes up with only 85% free right after I restart...if I open a browser window or two it drops dramatically and if I play TFC or any of my other games, quit and then try playing another the resources are usually between 25-50% and my computer locks up.
I've just put up with it for a long time now but its really starting to annoy me and since there are so many here who vast knowledge of tech support im hoping someone might have an idea or two. Thanks in advance!
-+edit+- Doh! mean to put this in the tech support forum _________________

What are some of your specs?? Sounds to me like a possible bad RAM chip or not enough RAM to begin with. But then again I swear by having RAM. I ordered mine with 768 Megs of it _________________

hl.exe has a habit of remaining open, even after closing tfc or whatever else. The only alternative to rebooting is to manually close it using Task Manager.
Reminds me of a clip from The Rock:
Goodspeed: "You've been around a lot of corpses, is that normal?"
Mason: "What, the feet thing?"
Goodspeed: "Yeah, the feet thing."
Mason: "Yeah, it happens."
Goodspeed: "Well, I'm having kind of a hard time concentrating, can you do something about it?"
Mason: "Like what...kill him again?" |

It sounds like you have something that leaks memory like crazy. Are you running in Windows ME?
Like the person above said, if you are using Windows as your OS, utilize the task manager to see what is taking up so much memory. It's possibly an app. isn't closing properly.
How much RAM do you have in the first place? |
