YPOWOM, Ever see the movie Black Hawk Down? THat stuff really did happen & its really hard to say that urban warfare will be easy, straight out war will end quickly but urban will cost many lives. too many sneak attacks, snipers, mines, & other conventional weapons can kill, doesnt matter how equiped u are, its there town & they know the in's & out's, i hope we dont have a hard time with it but, i just cant sit back & belive that its not going to be costly in urban warfare. _________________ Death Before Dishonor :: Semper Fi :: 1st Marine Division 3rd Tracks Bravo Co. |

Black hawk down was what 5 or 6 guys vs an entire army, That's not really Geurilla warfare, thats an all out manhunt.
Everyone who doesn't know better are all inflating and overestimating the casualties. I mean for crying out loud it's literally like an army of cybernetically enhanced troops in full body armor with constant data and communication vs. a 3rd world country with the tech level of 1970-1980 USSR being weilded by Bronze Age people. Just on the news Iraqi soldiers surrendered to troops in Kuwait and nothing has started yet.
They know they are going to get demolished like a bulldozer tearing up sandcastles. Another bunch of Soldiers tried to surrender to British troops last week who were test firing their weapons, the Iraqi soldiers came running over waving white flags and the Brits sent them back saying it was too early to surrender, they were just testfiring. Now thats pathetic.
Stop overinflating the casualties in your head, it's been over 10 years since 1991, and look how far conventional technology has come, do you really think our technology is the same for the military as 10 years ago? Definitly not, we're going to get to witness some of the newest coolest things ever seen on the battlefield. Robot drones that operate 24 hours a day, Sattalite guided missiles, Microwave weapons to disrupt electronics and electicity flows, this shit is sci-fi.
This all should not have to be done because they should have taken care of this back in 1991 instead of backing off. Everyone is having such a heart attack because oh my god people might die! War is not going out and tossing ammo at eachother until one side gives up, people are going to die, things are going to explode and if the civilians haven't fled or flee when the army is coming they obviously don't take their lives seriously, or they want to be martyrs. War is not an antiseptic thing, and sometimes it it necissary, there are too many people out there who are fucked up and want to cause trouble to not War with them, This is a rerun of what Americans said in 1939, they said no War in Europe, we're not going because people might die, let Hitler run wild he's not doing anything to us.....yet. We have professional soldiers, they knew the risk when they signed up to join the military.
This is going to be like the best reality TV yet, only a bit longer until the season premeire of Desert Storm 2 _________________ World of Warcraft:

I'm not one to say pull out cause people are going to die, im just stating that we arent going to be as lucky with casultie #'s as we were in 1991, I belive urban warfare will bring those #'s higher, anyways no reason to get in all heat over this, I have bigger things to worry about if they attack the homeland with terrorist attacks, i live about 5 miles from a nuke plant & if i hear and sirons u best belive my mustang will be pushing all 8cyl to get the hell outta here. _________________ Death Before Dishonor :: Semper Fi :: 1st Marine Division 3rd Tracks Bravo Co. |

Gelly Roll is exactly right, as is YPAWOM. Our army is far stronger than last time, also we have MORE troops this time, we also have the British Army at our sides too, and not to mention that the Iraqi army is weaker as well. Also, most of their army will just surrender. It will not be a bloody fight for us. But even if it is, the blood is necessary.

My personal stance on this goes like this, I still like what I came up with during my programming class today:
"Why can't Bush or Powell face off against Saddam in a game of chess in view of the whole UN?"
Incredibly moronic, I know, but it would be nice. No one would have to die needlessly. And no matter what anyone tells me, I still say war is wrong. If the draft came up, I'd sooner die than kill another. This is my opinion. |

The reason that is not possible is because Saddam has hidden those weapons and denied they existed. These are the same weapons that he is arming his troops with, ironic. If there is a draft, which there won't be, I would serve because we are by far the most powerful military in the world and if my government thinks that this is needed to protect our people, I would serve my duty in the best county in the world. _________________ Usually my sig goes here, but who the hell needs one anyways. |

Well, I'm watching Scud missles being fired at Kuwait right now.....
So, it doesn't matter any more whether this war was right or wrong, or how dangerous it might be. We're committed now.
I hope things turn for the best and a limited amount of innocents on both sides are killed. Lets not forget that Iraq's army does have 7 divisions, 2 of which are armored. Depending how well hidden things are, this could still be very difficult. |

The keys to a short campaign are
1. Maintaining Air Superiority...check
2. Blocking any attempts at Chemical attacks
3. Special forces inside Iraq continue to do their work
4. Members of the Republican Guard turning
5. Baghdad falls either by uprising or a shockingly easy win on the streets
On a lighter note. I'd be bitching because the enemy wasn't following league rules and was "chasing."
The Big One
When it comes to street by street battle. It's man on man. Taking Baghdad (a city of 5 mil) will not be easy unless the people turn on Saddam. I'm taking a break after nine hours of CNN and MSNBC coverage. _________________ Yes, I'm still around
