CS is a good game that requires patience (ppl here say they have to wait FIVE WHOLE MINUTES TO RESPAWN SOMETIMES omg! the horror), skill and slight amounts of teamwork, with more skill and occasionally an admin to kick the rampant cheaters. The reason some people (by which i means a LOT of people) still play this game is because they are good at it. It can tend to get boring if played excessively, but it is a lot of fun if played with people you know, on a regular server that you can rely on. If you suck at it, you won't like it (no offense...just a fact). I think it'd be great to stick it onto one of those underused TFC servers, as playing an occasional game of CS is always a welcome change for me. Anyway that's my twopence, take or leave. _________________

Heres the catch though...
You all say it would be good to have here if it's admin'd. That would require some admins (not just 1, you need a couple dedicated who play more than an hour or 2 a day) to play it on a regular enough basis to keep the server cleaned up. I don't even have it loaded or want to.
I played Tactical Ops mod for UT at a LAN party which is basically CS but with a lot better graphics, physics, and junk like that. I got bored of it within 30 minutes and wanted to play some real UT. Then some Red Faction DM.
I won't admin a CS server, Warhammer won't BRN won't Robert E. Lee won't...need I go on. I don't like the game structure and premise, it's too slow and if some StumbleBum gets a lucky whack off you and you croak you get to sit on the sidelines and watch the campers camp.
I've never played any CS, but from what I've heard of the players, we'd just be installing a waste treatment plant. A Server where we'd have to go in and clean up some really foul stuff, just to have more pour in and overflow into our other servers and forums. _________________ World of Warcraft:

I understand. TFC is dying fast. I update my server list every day and their are less servers and less players every day. I have done the dame with CS which I have plyd for about 2 hours total.
It really upsets me even more that Valve could not get their shit together with Sierra and Gear and make something happen.... _________________

Damn man you stole what I was going to say LOL! I was going to say ... Yall talk about admins bopping the few bad guys that come on ... But what admins would you be referring to ? To admin a server we would have to like the game. Who wants to just sit in a game just to kick cheaters and don't even like to play ? That like extra work. Hey I would spend my time without getting any fun out of it ... but your going to have to pay me to sit and waste my time ... LOL!
Bottom line is ... admins are normal players like yourselves that like to play games with other people. And when you take out the incentive to log into the server to play then all you have is work without much benefit. I don't have the game. I have however seen the game played. I would prolly play it to find out how its like to actually play it ... But from what I saw, and have heard ... I think I will stick to NS or DOD |

Okay, This will be my first post here.
I've been camping these forums for a while now, just reading everything and gathering how "friendly" all of u are
Anyway, all of this CS bashing just means I have to respond. Now, I ain' a CS freak who's come to defend his fave mod. I actually got kinda bored of CS now, BUT, I will point out its aspects.
First, the whole waiting deal.
It's not five minutes unless it's like a 12v12 and u run in like an idiot with no backup and get sniped. THEN you wait for the other 11 members of your team to die. I have played and my usual round time is approximately 2 minutes.
Second, CS players are asses?
I agree for the most part. Why? Cuz I've seen'em all. Newbs come in asking how to play. I respect that--I was a noob once. I help them out, but everyone else will laugh at him and start boasting about how "good" they are, despite the fact I have them killed in the next second. However, there are quite a few tempered CS players out there who are friendly. I, for one, am an example. I don't play here much and I don't have DoD, but you can ask ANYONE that plays NS on TV5 and TV8 (Yes, there are a lot of people on TV8), you can ask them about my personality.
Third, gaming experience sucks?
Not neccesarily. If everyone are shameless noobs who are afraid to move, they shouldn't even play. If they sit and hold up the game, then players should kick him out. I will state this: Camping IS a part of the game. It is a good strategy when used correctly. If you know there are 4 players coming at you and you're the only one left with 15hp, sit in a corner for a few seconds and try to surprise them. That's what I do. HOWEVER, I do NOT condone sitting there for the entire duration of the game.
Fourth, OMG the AWP!
Okay, This is a very popular issue. The AWP. What is it? It was the sniper rifle that the creators had to tone down the damage for so it wouldn't kill u in 1 shot to the toe. Now it only lowers you to 13hp (or 18hp?). Yes, this is a problem for any player, even me. However, the shooter has to be a good sniper, first of all. Second of all, I know that I always have to keep moving. If someone spots me, I move around in disarray, so snipers can't hit me as easily. Lastly, again, only if any admins WANT to play.. Admins can just plain out ban the awp! They can restrict buying any awps. Simple as that.
Fifth, There are only three weapons!
That is absolutely UNTRUE. Late in the game, yes people prefer rifles above all else. However, I, like most players, play according to their budget. I usually opt for the MP5 most of the game. ONLY when I can afford it and i KNOW I can do something without (not die without firing a shot) dying, will I buy any rifle. Also, pistols are well used. And the AWP is not the only sniper rifle in the game. I usually opt for the scout, cuz it won't kill anyone in one hit, so people won't complain, and it requries more skill than the awp. I tend to use the MP5/USP combo or any gun that suits me at that particular map. Sometimes I go crazy with the TMP/Mac10. Yes it's fun to kill people with weak weapons. And it's funny cuz we all get a laugh to relieve us from this "serious" gameplay.
Sixth, OMG he h4x!
Yes, I am well aware there are a sh!tload of cheaters out there for CS. I know all about'em cuz I've witnessed them. (surprisingly, a good amount of dodging works fairly well against even a wall-hacker) No mod can be hack-free, and I've seen a couple of good proposals for keeping them out. The passwording idea looks like the best to me at the moment, because cheaters won't even sign up for the forums just to find the password to a server to hack in and get banned. Secondly, there are a couple of third-party add-ons (not talking about Cheating-Death or the like. More like HLGuard. Something Server-side.) that can detect cheats (not too well, but some defense is better than none) and auto-bans. Above all, a watchful admin is all it takes.
Seventh, Why won't the team listen?!
If they're all noobs pissing in their pants when they fire a USP, yes this can happen. For the most part, people in CS aren't in clans, so they don't know RESPECT. Above all, they think CS is a DM match so they complain the most. They rush in ahead of you, die, and complain you didnt back him up and made him wait. Well, if you have a couple of people with BRAINS on your team, teamwork is almost assured. People just have to learn, like in a Clan Scrim, The team's goal is more important the the individual score. People run out trying to nab as many kills as they can to increase their score and be "number 1". However, once they die, that's one less for the team. Without backup, noone survives.
That was one long hell of a post, but I hope that clears things up. I for one would love to have a CS server here at TV so I can come play when my regular servers are full (I go to four AoW Clan servers.. Yes, they have four. lol)
If you're looking for a CS admin, you could pick me, but I'm not begging for power here, just offering a solution. If CS here is not allowable, I'd understand, I just want to clear some facts up so people won't bash at CS mindlessly. Now don't take me for one of those bastards that like CS as if it were god. I also love NS. I also love playing TFC. No I've never tried DoD so I can't say anything about it. But there.
One hell of a first post, eh? _________________ -= DarkRogue =-

I'd say it's good for a first post.
Now I know that none of the current admins would be willing to host or moderate a CS server, but what about having someone who has/does play CS and has been here for a while become an admin for only the CS server?
Yes, there are a lot of people out there ruining CS, but isn't it that way for all the other Half-Life mods too? How many of the DoD admins have had to step in lately, when was the last time a cheater for TFC was reported, or how about when someone said something about a player ruining NS for everyone?
While it's understandable that no one wants to host a CS server, after all most of us started here from TFC, but does that mean that we shouldn't at least try to send a good example to those in the world of CS? Look at what we've done for a lot of people in real life, people posted their problems on here. What has The 'Ville done for them? Helped them through it. Shouldn't we at least try to do that for others?
While currently no one wants to host a CS server, at least among those who posted, that doesn't mean that we should at least give it a try. Take a look at the icon the next time you use the server page to connect. What is it an icon of? CS. It's not all bad. Why not give it a try?
People affect things, people also ruin things. Whether or not anyone realizes it, The 'Ville has been a great example of the good things that can happen from online gaming, in a world where all toO often nothing but bad comes from it. |

I've spent a lot of time dealing with people on DOD, more time than I really wanted to anyways. It has it's days but for the most part I'm very active when I'm there.
As far as reports go there have been complaints filed with our new system. The great part about it is no one, other than the admins and the person filing the complaint, has to bother with it since it's now private .
I really have no opinion as far as CS coming here or not. I do know however that I won't be there to play. I have tested the waters of CS and didn't like it. Someone else pretty much said it best, I am very impatient. 1 of the big complaints I had was sitting around waiting for a round to end. _________________

DS and GHG bring up some good points, with which I agree. (Although I'm not sure i'd stand by DS's personality lol, he's a cold blooded killer .) I too try to be nice to noob's on CS (and every other game, as long as they're willing to learn) and would enjoy playing CS with ppl like DS and VP and whoever else around here likes it. I too got bored with it long ago, but still play when I feel like a slower paced and more laid back game. That's what CS is ... it's a game with brief moments of intense action (team based OR solo action, depending on how the round goes), interspersed with periods of waiting, when you can take some time to watch the rest of the players and chat with the other spectres. I see enough people observing on NS when they don't feel like playing that round...CS gives you the chance to play AND observe, and it also makes ach round insignificant, as they start over every few minutes anyway. This leads to a (being redundant, but w/e) more relaxed and laid back gaming environment.
( DS! Nice post and welcome.) _________________

Nice post DS
I too, would also be willing to admin just CS server if it ever comes around. I still think it would be a nice addition to the ville. _________________

I know that a kick vote can be very helpful to a game of CS if there are a good majority of respectable players there. I think as long as there are enough regulars there than a kick vote accessable for all players might make it possible to control the cheaters and llamas.
As long as our regulars report abuse to the admins, we should be able to keep our servers llama free. Even if we don't have admins in the game at every moment, or even most of the time for that matter, we could still manage to keep the server clean. The Ville servers have a great name in the gaming communities we host servers in, and I think that we could handle a CS server.
Of course the problem still lies in our lack of a host. I doubt that any of the current server hosts would dedicate their server to a CS server, so we would need a new host. _________________ Amen!

I have started a poll to see who would actually play on a Counter-Strike server if there was one. Vote here. _________________ Amen!

If the problem is not having enough admins to kick people/enforce rules, I'm sure you could find someone not necessarily a tfc admin who would be happy to admin cs. I'd volunteer to be an admin (with just the power to kick/ban) if the ville got a cs server but for the fact that I hardly play half-life (any mod) as much as i used to and as much as would be necesary. Of course there still has to be someone willing to host a cs server, which will probably be hard to find in a tfc based community. Personally I think that cs calls for alot more strategic manuevers than tfc, there's nothing like being the last person left on your team, sneaking through terrorist zones and triumphantly returning to your base with a line of hostages. |

And then you get sniped by someone with an AWP when you're two inches away from the rescue zone.
Pardon me. I've just had a lot of bad experiences with Counter-Strike. _________________

I dont recall which thread it was posted in but Robert did say that CS wil NEVER be on any server with the Ville name, so regardless I guess its out of the question. The first Online HL mod I played was CS and the person who introduced me to the game showed it to me while he was wallhacking so that pretty much sums up what I think of CS. _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |
