Trance, Dance and all other related "music" types have no place in anywhere but clubs.
Wanna know why no-one listens to the top 40 in the UK?
Cos there's so much crap (dance, trance, pop) in it that it bears no actual relation to how good the music is.

Ice, I think i'll join you in the ranks of YOUNG men. How about the techno groups who actually create oringal music rather than just mix the old (not that there is anything wrong with that). I listen to a lot of moby, underworld, and paul oakenfeld when I play in the ville. Can't frag without that.

If you need a DJ, how about Razhel? If you've never heard him..look him up. Its unreal.

I agree Greebo, dance and techno arent really music that you could listen to on a regular basis. Techno is hardly music at all. They both belong in dance clubs. As for mixing, like Fatboy Slim, hes cool, I could watch Weapon of Choice all day! Now thats good music.

I honestly don't think you're giving the whole genre a fair evaluation. Yeah, techno is just a repeating beat...but so isn't most music really. And as far as lyrics go, I have heard techno that is far more poetic then most contemporary music.

I challenge you to come out to a club with me some time and watch the DJs prrform. Its just as much an art form as it is music. Watch it once and you'll at least repect it, I guarantee.

Besides, the trance beat and steady bass is perfect inspiration for mayhem and gibbing alike. Do you really need a better excuse to listen to it?

If I may weigh in. I do listen to Techno/Trance/Dance and I do enjoy it, but it does have its place like clubs and racing car or just outright annoying people as you drive by. Coming from a classical music education ( I play the violin please don't laugh) I would have to say that techno is music but in my opinion I don't regard techno as real music like classical. Yes there are those rare exceptions like Moby who I think is awesome. Ya'll should also check out Klubbheads and Worldtrance they are good, too. Oh and Ministry of Sound if you like the whole Island of Ibza thing.Anywho I just wanted to put my opinion out there.

Yes I agree it has it's place - that place is in clubs (or even just Ibiza, that'd be nice, one island where it can be isolated).

It has no business being marketed as main stream music though, and especially has no business in the charts. Like I said, here in the UK the official top 40 is nothing but a farce any more - due to dance/techno and manufactured pop.

Obviously you need a slight amount of skill to mix music (i.e. enough to match the beats) but it still isn't the same as composing entire songs from scratch

Yes, techno, to some extent is music. But DJ's do deserve respect, its very hard. But there is a difference between DJ'ing and producing techno music. DJ'ing mixes songs, and lyrics by people to make a whole new song. Techno on the other hand is just putting together inhuman sounds to immitate a song. Please, keep techno in the clubs, I dont see how anyone can possibly listen to it in the car or at home.

This sounds old school. I'm not that old, but I always have seperated DJ's and music. DJ's and electroics and music created from scratch are two different entities.

I like created music not a bunch of programming. Most crap, like on Chicago's B-96 is crap. It takes no f'n talent to write that junk and to have someone program samples for you. That type of music belongs in the clubs on Saturday night for you to pick up a woman.

There are exceptions. I love the Moby CD. Nine Inch Nails in the mid 90's was good too. The difference in that CD is that the samples are based upon rock formats (4/4's.) There is no problem using a sample to enhance your music. Hell Pink Floyd was quite experimental with sounds (On the Run on Dark Side of the Moon.) These bands also go on tour with a real band and make it work.

I think in closing, if you cannot reproduce the sounds with a live instrumental band (not all DJ's), then forget it. You can have a DJ in the as a part of the band. 311 does this (an example, I think they suck though.) It's just my opinion.

The problem is that the rock scene is rather dull right now. Creed wouldn't be among the best grunge bands 10 years ago with Nirvana, STP, SP, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden in their prime. Would Creed match up with the 70's bands of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Rush, or even a band like Cheap Trick? NO way in hell. Staind would be the same. Yeah, they may have a hit or two, but so has many other bands. BTW what the hell has ever happened to the lost form of the guitar solo? Anyone got an answer? I think this is a big part of the decline in rock right now. Rock will be back. It always comes back in cycles. Just remember, music almost always goes in 4-6 year cycles.

There is no other form of music that is as dynamic as rock. Rock is the one form of music that changes. Blues, Jazz, House, and Classical music always stays the same in principle. I like three of the forms I mentioned here.

I do like Laterlus by Tool. It's worth it if you like rock music.

Guitar solo frag? Inna godda davida sucked that up (that's a damn long solo). Also, if you like guitar solos, listen to "espionage" on the Austin Powers 2 CD. As for techno, the only poetic person I've seen is Moby. Personally, I like making up songs on my guitar or trying to play crazy train (it's INCREDIBLY hard) from start to finish. The only thing I really like about techno is breakdancing. I dunno about you "older" (used to chisel on stone tablets in school) fellas, but I LOVE breakdancing. It's challenging and fun and extremely physically challenging (you try to stand on one hand keeping your body perpendicular to the floor, it's no easy task). Since school's starting, I won't be on the ville much, so you guys all get a break

True, there are very different genres of rock, and they do go in cycles, but music itself goes in cycles. You know, in the 50, it was very bubblegum, 60's, it was psychadellic, 70's, it was disco, 80's hard rock, 90's, its bubblegum-pop again. However, rock will be back as mainstream music, and people like Britney Spears, and Nsync, will be long forgotten. And yes, Creed may not even up to band like Nirvana (and how could you forget Pearl Jam), but they are like modern day Nirvana's. Grunge/Alternative just isnt mainstream, so people dont rocognize it as if it were in the early 90's. But they still are a great band, like other modern alternative bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lifehouse, and even Pearl Jam is still around, just not as popular.

whoa there bak! your a lil b-boy yourself huh? well, in LB's origin, ice left it out, all of us used to breakdance. not the people that play on the ville, just me, ice, and others from school. that is where our "real" name started from, we just pulled it over from there. heh, how good are you anyway?
i even went so far as to put some linoleum in my backroom and we practiced 2-3 times weekly
