|

First off, yes, I do know it's 4:30 am.
I just bought a Dell poweredge 600SC... P4 2.8, 128MB, 40GB HD, everything else neutered. After taxes, $396. (basically bought it for the CPU, the rest are just goodies)
Dell has a bigtime deal with upgrades from celeron 1.8, to P4 2.4/533 for free, and I chose to go up to 2.8 for $99...
There's $110 instant discount, 5% off coupon, and a $100 mail in rebate.
I plan to build my new gaming system around that 2.8 CPU, and I'll have some good stuff left over
It's in the small business section, so you might have to sort of fudge a little

I just looked....
$389 before tax but with free shipping and a $100 mail in rebate so $289 plus tax which for me was $23. Add the coupon code of 8D2755970FD4 which takes off another 20 or so dollars netting the final price under $300.
For that you get a P4 2.4 gig (533 MHz bus), 128 meg ram, 40 gig drive, keyboard, mouse, 1 year on site warranty, built in video and network.
Pretty cheap, huh? _________________

It's a good deal if you want it to be a host server, but if you are wanting to use it as the machine you play from, it has no AGP slot... so stuck w/ integrated GFX |

Oh, it's going to be a custom job... I think the case and the CPU are all that'll be left in it when I'm done.
The motherboard, hard drive, cdrom, PSU, and memory are going to get "spun off" into something else. |

It's not worth it to buy any computer with integrated video or audio. Your better off getting something that's seperate. It may look good on paper but give it a few months when your ready to upgrade, then your FUBAR _________________

Hallelujah!
All-in-1ders are crapatola.
If you actually want to ever be able to upgrade, you can not go with an all-in-1der. _________________ Recipient of POTM award

Ya, I've heard nightmare stories about emachines and not being compatible with jack sh|t. Compaq has some good deals sometimes also, but the best thing like others said dont get anything that doesnt have an AGP slot. You can at least disable on board stuff via the bios. Myself I just would rather build my own. |
