Ok yall i asked this a while back and now i know a little more about my sound card ok well i have a ES 1868 and well when i try to play hl and use the mic it will not work so can someone help me and tell me why it wont work?
BTW, it works then i use the sound recorder threw windows tho so i am fresh out of ideas. I have also updated the drivers and still nothing

Make sure under audio options you enable voice recording and microphone settings,
and also make sure you bind a key like this:
bind q "+voicerecord"

My question may sound stupid, but is there a little sound symbol appearing in the lower right of your screen when you press your talk key? Because it may be a bad bind.

well i get their 1 error when i run Voice_tweak from the HL folder and it says cant initalize WaveOut and in game it says some goblty goop and says you will not be able to play with a microphone
so i dont know if i need a new sound card or if its just some config problem

Ha! That is another matter. Strangely, my HL Voice_tweak gives me the same message, but my mike is working perfectly in game.
So try it in game to see if it works

That is your reason, for some reason voice doesn't work with ISA sound cards, probably because they are too old. I had this problem, but got a SB PCI 128.

Hehe I have problems with my mic too ... think its my built in sound card on my mobo ... But im going to get my old SB outa my old machine since it worked with that ... hope it solves all my sound problems  |

Just make sure to disable onboard sound. If the card is PCI, it should work still, especially since it worked before.

ok ok ok i took a sound card from a comp i dont use no more and so im using it for the mic and when im in game it shows the mic icon now but it wont let anyone here me any feed back on that?

ok not letting me edit it but i would also like to add that when i hit the button in game it shows other people my box that says im talking (or so they say) so is their some commands i can use to make my voice louder/ what i need to do to fix this noone can hear me prolem

just making sure because it happens fairly often...
When you use Voice_tweak and it does not work, the program then set your mike to "mute".... it may still be that way and explain your situation. Click on the Volume icon in your taskbar and make sure your mike is on.
