Forgive my irrational exuberance, but I've been waiting for this for a VERY LONG TIME!

People have FINALLY come up with a way to extract PSX music! If you've heard of SPC sound dumps for the Super NES, this is just like that. Only it's harder to extract PSX sound because you have to know Assembly...
So click on the link. I hope they come up with more soundtracks soon. (I look forward to Final Fantasy VIII and Threads of Fate, for two.) _________________

PSF the format for music files from the PlayStation. It's like SPC files dumped from SNES emulators.
(Maybe I shouldn't expect a huge reaction from a forum for a TFC server. You're all computer gamers, not console gamers...) _________________

OKAY FINE! I will spell it out! Here we go! *Takes deep breath*
Music in most console video games is made the same way as tracked computer music (formats like .MOD .S3M .IT .XM). The music is "generated" which means that recorded sounds (samples) are played at different notes in patterns. The song file is completely self-contianed, and it has both its samples and instructions for playing those samples all together in that file.
Of course, this isn't true for all video games. Some games don't have thier music generated, but recorded instead. Some games will play music off CD tracks or compressed into files on your hard drive (think Half-Life, Diablo II, King's Quest VIII, Max Payne). The PlayStation supports recorded CD tracks on its game discs in the .XA format. But generated is the point of this post, not recorded.
For a long time now, people have been able to capture the sounds and songs off games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System by using Super NES emulators (such as ZSNES at www.zsnes.com ). These emulators can "capture" a song file in the SNES's music format .SPC (named for the SPC700 chip, the SNES's sound proccessing unit). Using specialized programs or plugins for Winamp, you can listen to these SPC's song files without having to play the game.
NOW FINALLY, some people have learned how Sony compressed game music onto the PlayStation game discs. If you know Assembly, you can extract the these music files (which are much like .MOD files in nature, but much higher quality) and play them using a Winamp plugin.
Have I explained myself well enough? The Ville was probably the wrong place to bring this up. None of you know what the heeeeel I'm talking about. *sigh*.

Don't "who" already do "what"?
If you're talking about extracting .psf files, I think that's realatively new. Take a look at the listings at Zophar for .psf archives and you'll see they don't have very much yet. _________________
