It's a pretty simple math trick.
Basically here is how it works. You chose a two digit number -> XY. This notation is meant to have X represent a single number - not a tens digit but a unit digit.
Then you have 10X+Y-(X+Y), or simplified, 10X-X <-which will be the number you guess. Since the Y values cancel out all that matters is what X you picked (tens value). Thus, in order to assure that they are right they make all values of 10X-X for 1<=X<=9 the same symbol.
That's how it works, check it out yourself. _________________ The most hated.

Actually, I didn't take the time to think of the math equation, but I did have it figured out before I read any of the other post. The second one I'v actually seen before and I figured it out before.
