Hey I'm in town and ready to party.. but server won't let me

Hi all,

Long time, no shoot at. I have been busy with work and even was out of town a few times. But when I have been playing lately I have been playing DoD. Which was why I was soooo happy to see TheVille setting up some DoD servers. My new favorite mod on my favorite server!!! Whoot!!

But I think the server (May the lord bless her and keep her) is punishing me for my long absence. Every time I try to log onto the Ville DoD server it tells me
"
[ADMIN] That name is reserved on this server.
"

So, I tried changing <TVB>FingerDemon to FingerDemon, and then tried changing it to something else entirely. But I always get the same response. Am I doing something wrong? I can play DoD on other servers, so it seems to be Ville specific.

Anyway, if anyone knows what to do to fix this, I would appreciate them replying to this post.

in your autoexec.cfg

heres how it should look:
First line is for servers with old admin mod second is for newer adminmod..

setinfo pw-home yourpass
setinfo _pw-home yourpass

Hey Thanks SilverOne!

So, I tried posting that into my autoexec.cfg, but still no go. Should I only have one of those two lines? And does the line or lines need to go at the top of the file? And lastly, should I be replacing that "yourpass" with some kind of password? I don't have one and I didn't think the servers were using them.

You keep connecting as "Player" according to the stats!

scratch that above thing.. when we see the player is reserved its usually caused by the reserved slots for the ville supporters or admins. Then the password lines fix the problem. But.. for you..

I noticed on the DoD stats you were trying to connect with your name as "Player" that name is not allowed on the servers. Its considered a reserved name.

May want to check your configuration and make sure your name is right. It should let you in then.

Yes, I have noticed servers saying my name is "Player" as I connect. But the weird thing is that it is <TVB>FingerDemon in the config.cfg file.

Hmmmmmm....

Perhaps it is the config.cfg file at the Half-Life level. I probably haven't changed that since reloading HL when rebuilding my machine. I'll see what it says and see if I can find this mysterious Player reference in my settings.

Make sure you configure everything in the DoD folder.

Hmm,

Have you also checked in the config menu's in the game itself to be sure it doesnt say "player" ?

same wonid as a admin here? or are u one of the admins? Casue i only get that when i dont login with my pswd as admin.

The mystery... she is solv-ed!! It turns out that since I use gametiger now to launch games, it launches in Half-Life first, then switches to the custom game once it hits the server. So it was using the lame "Player" reference from one of the config files in the general Half-Life folders. (I had already edited the DoD folder.... I'm not THAT much of a newbie

) There are a couple of general folders, so I just changed them all to my name and was able to join a game last night. Unfortunately, everybody was on the one DoD server and it was full, so I had to join the empty one. All alone in the war zone. Doh!

But its all good, I hope to see you all in game in the near future.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. If I didn't already know this was the friendliest server around, I'd know it now.
