MS To Own Half-Life?
Well, according to this article at Computer & Video Games, there is speculation that Microsoft is looking at buying Vivendi, which we all know publishes such games as Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Warcraft. Will that be the end of Half-Life mods? Who knows, this is just rumor, let alone approved, so it is anyone’s guess…interesting enough to pass on to you guys though.

If insider speculation is to be believed, Microsoft has bought US publisher Vivendi, with an announcement to that effect due soon. Take a deep breath and reflect on the implications of that, if true. Half-Life 2, Warcraft, Counter-Strike, Crash, Spyro, Lord of the Rings... Vivendi has an enormous portfolio boasting some of the biggest titles on all formats, and it would be an ultra-smart move on Microsoft's part to snap them up. Such a buyout, of course, would come at a terrifically high price, making the 365 million acquisition of Rare look like peanuts. But if anyone has the necessary funds, it's Microsoft.

Now, we all know that speculation is just someone “guessing”…so while we are at it, I am officially speculating that Microsoft will buy us out for $350 million dollars too, cash only…large bills please.

Eh. Valve was founded by ex-microsoft employees, you know.

It must be Sierra they're talking about, which merely distrubutes HL,
and you noticed lately, with Steam and all, how much Valve wants
to GET AWAY from Sierra.

I wonder if they realized something like this was going to happen?

The craziest news of all is there are rumors of Half-Life 2 being an XBox exclusive. I sure hope that's just on the consoles. If not, pass me that bottle.

and i heard that the next hl update is not gogin to allow custon sprites nor exec the class.cfg or anything! W T F! i hope that is not so, or else i will cry if i ahve to do without my purple rockets..

I believe Planethalflife had an article about that as well, another company that may be looking at this is EA.

you'll still be able to use your customizations.. it's just disabled in the beta so valve can stress test their servers.

My sources still tell me that Valve is stand-alone, and it's
their distributor, SIERRA, that would be part of the buyout, if
such a thing occured.

I would hate to see the game creators like Blizzard and valve get sold to microsoft. That would probably bring ruin to their great games.
