This has never been a problem for me. I have gigabytes of generated songs (soundtracks and tracked music) that I like to listen to.
What about anyone else? What songs did you stick on your discs? Did you find that you had more space than you could ever possibly use? |
I have all kinds of music on my machine, about 11GB worth. |

I have a CD/mp3 player, I use it for my car = it's well worth it since i can just use that instead of having to put in a million normal CD's into my car. And yea, space isn't a problem, i have way too many songs...heh.
Also, about having to browse through all the songs - my CD/mp3 player has a menu system that you can browse by alphabetical title order (useful as well) |

I ran out of space on my MP3 player and still need to burn more CDs of MP3s to play...I think you run out of space faster than songs. _________________ World of Warcraft:

I'd rather have a car mp3 compatable player. Discmans won't do much for me. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

Since no one else has really put any cons, I will...
I have a CD-R/RW/MP3 capable cd player, however, when making cds, I still create them in cd audio format instead. The reasons are:
1. Although you could fit about, i dunno, 20x the amount on to a single mp3 cd, then you would have to -- search through 100 songs to find the one you want to hear!! (even if you organize them in folders, its annoying..)
2. cd player makes long, loud, obnoxious noise when its first decoding an mp3 cd. =\
3. batteries go much faster while playing mp3s (ok, this isn't really a prime reason i dont use them, but its still a con)
4. Biggest reason--- If I made cds to listen to in mp3 format for this cd player, I could then not listen to those same cds in the car, which can't read mp3. I don't know of any car players that can, but im sure there probably are ones. Mine, however, does not. And therefore, I would have to make different cds to use in the car, which would be really annoying. |

I'm sure it's not truly erasing the whole disk, rather just whatever
the disk uses for a table of contents. _________________

The loud noise isn't a big deal, if you get a fast CD ROM (36X or greater) they sound like engines revving up to spin the disk superfast. The Diskman is doing the same thing, that's not really a deterrant I wouldn't think, a car's engine makes loud noises too when you use it.
As for the car audio there, yes there are many types of MP3 playing car stereo systems, read my first post on this thread. I have one and they can go for as little as $150. They also read more than just MP3s...like I said before MP3, AIFF, WAV, and WMA formats. _________________ World of Warcraft:

Time for me to add a bit here. Like others have said before, MP3 players for cars is still new but there are many out there that are very affordable. My next purchase will be an MP3 player for the car. Already got my eyes on a nice Sony.
Minidisc technology is something that came here a few years ago and never really took off. They are very very durable so scratching isn't a big concern. However you do need not only the reader but you also need to buy a recorder. This gets very expensive, which is the main reason they aren't very popular.
Although MP3 technology isn't that common outside of computers it is going that way. Getting a device that reads in this format would be a good investment. Putting more music on 1 disc is seen as very convient, even though they may be cons to it. Having 1 CD instead of 10 CD's seems to be more convient.
These are JMO. _________________

I guarentee my Kenwood MP3 player I had you would not know if it was a standard CD or a burned MP3. It switched, started, and played MP3 files very quickly. Usually what I did is make folders for each artist, then put the correct files in each folder. You would end up with one cd that is like having a 12 disc CD changer that way. Very easy to navigate |

That's a good way of putting it Blown, that's exactly what it's like, I just couldn't think of it while I was trying to write my post.
Alot of times I just load a CD full of random 'loose' MP3s (not in folders) onto a disk, which is in the range of 200 MP3s..pop it in my car and hit random, it's like listening to a radio station of all your music since it never plays a song twice and 200 MP3s is about 700 minutes (11 hours and 40 minutes) of continuous music, be your own DJ, without commercial interruptions. _________________ World of Warcraft:

The day they make a digital player, or cd player, that can read... MIDIs, I will be in heaven. Can you just imagine? You could fit practically tens of thousands of songs onto one cd! .. too bad no one likes midis anymore.. i remember back when everything was midis.. (hehe, I was looking at some really old files i had on a zip disk the other day, I had some music on it, and it was all in .mp2 format.. lol.. (though, on another off-topic, i thought mp2 was supposed to be audio encoding for avis, not just an earler version of mp3? guess not though..)) |
