Right on SuperZero, your music rocks! Oh and I forgot REM, Aerosmith, and Genesis/Phil Collins. And Greebo, I know thats not why you like them. I agree, their ballads aren't as offensive, but c'mon, Marylin Manson??? What the hell are you thinking?

Well, Frag was the only one to have mentioned it, but I thought for sure that TOOL would be on more of y'alls playlists. They are my favorite band, though I do like a lot of the harder stuff that has been listed here as well. I got started on TOOL with a demo tape that got passed around in the early '90s when they were still workin part-time jobs here in L.A. I still have a copy of it around here somewhere and I love the unrefined sound they used to have.

Good thread btw.

Marilyn Manson rocks bells!!!

So long as you don't take him too seriously there's a ton of reasons to like him.
Ok so lots won't like him musically wise, but as you may have guessed from the bands I listed - I like *loud* stuff.
Plus religious groups object to him - it's always funny to see them getting so wound up about nothing. (In case anyone doesn't know/hasn't guessed, I'm currently totally anti-religion, but this isn't the place for that kind of debate)
*Anything* that religious groups object to are usually things that are great.

Besides, you gotta like anyone who can take a great song, namely "Sweet Dreams", and improve it!

Yeah Greebs, I agree to some extent...Manson has some awesome music. I know a lot of people give him crap for his act (and I'm not a fan of it either), but if you just listen to the music itself it's awesome...there's only a few songs that the lyrics kinda make it past my limits, but for the most part I find the lyrics to be better than a lot of the bands out there now (anti-selling out, that sorta thing...probably strikes a chord because I'm still young and stupid, hehe).

I didn't list him because even though I've got some of his music, I'd never be caught dead at a concert, lol. I wish he'd drop the act, then more peeps would take him seriously. Ah well, to each his own I suppose.

Oh, and thanks Maian!

No Way!
He can't lose the act, the act is what makes him Marilyn Manson!
Besides, no-one does a show like it!
(Who else would dress up as the pope near the Vatican?)

Yeah, that pope thing was hilarious, but some of the stuff he does is just...well, disgusting. Even recently he's got that whole security guard incident going against him. C'mon Greebs, even you've gotta admit that's some sick stuff right there (I'm hoping you know what I'm talking about, b/c it wouldn't be appropriate to describe the situation on a public forum, lol). But ah well, if you like the act then that's your call...I don't pass judgement unless you like boy bands or Britney Spears and clones, lol. For me, though, I'd rather listen to the cds than go to a concert.

Depends on the stuff you mean
I've seen him twice this year - once in Manchester in January and once last weekend.
Nothin during it was that OTT.
You gotta remember that 99% of the crap you read about Marilyn Manson isn't true (talking along the lines of Biting the heads off chickens, chucking puppies into the audience and saying he won't play til the head of the puppies are returned)
Yes he's done some weird stuff on stage, some of them sexual, but that's who he is, he has few inhibitions.

Mind you, after reading his auto biography, you can't blame him for turning out a bit weird.
Good book actually - a good read

(you're gonna have to tell me thru icq or email about security guard incident, musta missed that one)

*one edit later*

unless you mean that australian security guard thing? thought they blamed that on halflife (as usual, unjustifiably so)

Yeah, I know that a LOT of peeps make crap up to hose him...but I guess I just get wierded out by what IS true. Besides, the chicken and puppy stuff was obviously bs because they were slightly modified rumors that originally were used against Alice Cooper, lol. Although the chicken has a very small basis of truth w/ Alice (funny story actually, I saw footage of him telling it...smart man, good story teller).

It's the 1% of the time that he DOES do something that kinda wierds me out. Ah well, one of my best friends is a major Manson fan so eventually I'll prolly get dragged to a concert and find out for myself...I'll let ya know

Never been to a Manson show...not my thing, but I've heard of them from some friends and Girlfriend, the set and showmanship though was pale in comparison to the kinda stuff I've seen Old Man Zombie do, (white Zombie/RobZombie) Now that is a Show not just a concert. The props and pyrotechnics kicked ass when I saw him with Pantera in 96..I hear he's doing the same, but I've since graduated to DeathMetal for my Heavy Listening, otherwise I just Listen to my other music, see post waaay up this thread to see.

I forgot a few on the list

-PERMANENT ZERO
-Van Halen
-UFO (silver hates them)
-King Crimson (prog rock rules for the musicians like me)
-Offspring
-Ted Nugent
-Red Hot Chili Peppers (flea is one of my fav bassists.)

I forgot to add that I have played bass for eight years now. I played in a band with SilverOne back in '95 called Permanent Zero. He played lead guitar. Those were the days when we rOxOr'd.

My 5 favorite bassists

-Geezer Butler, Black Sabbath
-Chris Squire, Yes
-Flea, Chili Peppers
-Tony Franklin, Blue Murder and also Gary Hoey
-Jaco Pastorius, Acid Jazz Supreme!

Honorable Mention

-Les Claypool, Primus and other project he's in.
-Gene Simmons, Kiss. He makes it on presence much more over ability. He technically sucks, but you can't stop watching him during a concert.

Worst Bassist

-Almost any glam band from the 80's. They all were jokes except for Billy Sheehan and Steve Harris. A lot of them today are a little better, but don't match up to those of the 70's.

PS----
NO ABBA DOES NOT BELONG ON THIS LIST ERBA. However, I'm so diverse I even have a "copied cd" of ABBA Gold. No royalties for ABBA.

C'mon Greebs, Marylin Manson and awesome just dont belong in the same post. He's obviously a psycho of some sort or another. Hes got some serious problems that I dont think anyone should know about. And I dont want to go into that whole stupid anti-christ thing. Im not very religious myself, but that guy is going staight to hell, and you know what, he'll probably like it down there. I just dont see how someone who likes Nirvana can also like Manson, and all of those other hard-rock idiots. And Im not saying you like them cause they can misspell their names, but they think theyre cool cause they can misspell corn as korn, stained as staind, limp biscuit as limp bizkit, and all of those other idiots. It seems like all they have to do to be cool is replace a S/C with a Z, or a C with a K, or just skip a letter or misspell it all together. Sorry, Im just rambling now.

Ah, but what's in a name? My fav band, the Smashing Pumpkins, got their name from a joke that Billy Corgan always used to tell about how if he were in a famous band, it would be the Smashing Pumpkins (just a ridiculous name he thought up). It stuck. And then there's The Beatles...oops, they misspelled Beetle and cleverly put the word Beat into their name...

Well the only solution to this big argument over the bands is obviously to name yourself your favorite band and beat eachother with crowbars till the other is dead...The one who wins is obviously the best band...a battle of the bands of sorts
