I do!
I can have a ping of 55 yet the screen still jumps and freezes every now and then. My 55 ping actually plays like a 300 ping.
It's been getting steadily worse the past couple weeks. I've never had system lag before but it seems like that is what is happening. I've checked on other servers and I get the same thing.
Any ideas what could be causing this new found lag? _________________ Recipient of POTM award

What are the specs on your pc? You update your video drivers lately?
You play any other online games? If so do you get the same lag?
There. That should be enough questions to start with _________________

Why do I even bother posting anything here ? If I had $200.000 for every dang post of mine that I putup in here concerning Connection problems, their causes, and how to fix them that most chose to ignore I would be a rich man rightnow!
<-- Scratches his head ? for a site that consists of nothing but mostly technical perfectionists, the answers to the simplist problems can be found in these forums if you take the time to look for them. Then again, who am I to suggest such a thing. LOL! Sound and Video are a major factor when it is concerning your connection and latency issues KRG. _________________ http://www.nosmacktards.com |

If it was something easily fixed, I would have fixed it by now. I can usually fix most of this carp by myself but this problem has me baffled. I seriously think my system is starting to die. It makes a scratching noise when it boots up and keeps trying to boot from the CD drive.. If we are meant to scan forums for answers to these questions, then why have this new forum? _________________ Recipient of POTM award

A couple things with choke...
Make sure your drop down connection type in the server list window is at the right rate. Sometimes its changed by accident to a lower setting which causes choke.
Some players mess with the cl_updaterate.. if this setting is too high vs connection speed it also causes very high choke. Also, if there are a lot of players on the map, more data is being sent you will also receive more choke (if your bandwidth cannot handle it). If this setting is too low it will also cause choke.
Dead Kennedys:
It would be totally different if every player on on servers were having choke problems or lag.. then we can easily point at the server and find out what is the cause. All the servers are in different locations in the US, running on different providers, different hardware, settings, bandwidth, etc. If someone is having a problem with lag/choke on all of them then usually something is wrong with the players system or connection. We may have to look deeper.
Hopefully we can help those with these issues
KRG:
Have you run a netgraph while playing to see what your refresh rate is while playing? Or if you are getting massive choke? Some choke is normal.. 0-5 or so.. especially in high action areas. If it goes over 10 or so and is constant then there is a problem.
Have you ran a scandisk and a defrag? Clean up files, etc. Do you have a decent amont of room on your drive? Have you installed any new programs that may be taking up resources? Like a new virus scan, etc.
Also.. are you running the game in OpenGL? Halflife is optimized for OpenGL.
Hopefully we can help get ya back to playing normally again. _________________

Yeah what Silver said. One additional thing. I had this same problem for a couple hours this weekend. When I started checking out my system I found I had a process running at 97% processor utilization. I would join a server then minimize and check your processes to see what's pulling all your juice. _________________
