OK this really is starting to bug me. At the stroke of 12:00 midnight if I am still on computer the monitor screen goes blue with a small white box in the center of it and freezes system. The hard drive is still going and all. I can still hear the game in the background. The only way I can get going again is to reset. NONE of my settings are set for this to happen.
Any ideas _________________

Really does sound like a virus
What virus protection do you have?
Norton is the best IMHO
If you do have virus protection make sure you have the latest virus updates,
reboot your computer into safe mode
run a full system scan
If it finds a virus get the name of it and research it on the web, that way you will know what your dealing with and what action to take.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html/
Also depending on the virus it could have disabled your virus protection. In which case you would have to re-format most of the time.
Another silly thing it may be is in your "Windows Scheduler" it may be set to sleep down your pc at a specific time.
And another silly thing it could be is your UPS, yes your backup power supply. If you are running the "Parachute" software that comes with the APC brand it too could be shutting down your pc.
Either that or someone in your house if f***king with joo |

I'm not very good at this stuff but here I go anyway...
Couldn't the blue screen of death (no pun intended) be a software conflict? For example, you have a utility scheduled to open at 12am and it conflicts with Half Life and BAM... you get the bsd. I ran a file sharing program called WinMx and it used to do that.

This isn't as far fetched as it sounds.
A Blue Screen does not kill all your programs. It has simply reached a state that it can not continue from, so everything that you had running, often times, continues to run.
As for the "white box", working in IT I have heard much stranger descriptions for a Blue Screen. _________________

Update: Technicians have looked at equipment and found nothing, no virus no sechduling no power saving etc. to create shut down. Norton is NOT running.
The monitor,ONLY, still shuts off at midnight. It dosnt matter if I am in HL or another program or NOTHING is open still shuts-down.
The monitor is a "KDS XF-70 XFLAT" with a 17" screen. _________________

it doesnt seem to be a bsod if there aren't any windoze error codes generated on the top of the screen. but i've also seen cases where the resolution also changes so that the error codes go beyond the screen too.
what os are you running blue? have you also tried running a virus scan (macafee, norton, or otherwise)? what was the outcome of that scan? |

There is no window error code appearing. The os is Windows ME various software scans were done all showing negative. I also scanned with www.antivirus.com and it DID indicate that the KLEZ.H virus was present, however subsequent scans indicated this to be false. The technicians scanned with some special program that they have and it was found clear of viruses.
A little additional linfo, if another monitor is hooked up to harddrive it does NOT shutdown so its inb the monitor itself. _________________

I have a KDS XF-9e XFLAT monitor. I had some problems with it when I first got it going into its energy star powersave mode for no appearent reason.
Check with KDS online and see if you have the correct driver for your OS. That was the problem I had, the driver that windows PnP selected by default was not the KDS driver. Even after I updated the driver, windows still had it in its convoluted protocols that the monitor driver selection needed to be set to PnP, not to the KDS driver. Took me a while to work it out, but it was a driver issue. _________________
