I had a plan to format the HD on my old computer and re-install Windows95. It's an old computer, and it has a lot of extra crap I don't need - it was a great idea.

The formatting went fine. When I got to the re-install, I realized I had lost my Cert. of Authenticity, with the CD-Key I needed to reinstall!

So now I have a blank C: drive and no OS - except for what I have on my boot disk

Am I shafted?

I installed a second HD a while ago and copied everything from the C: drive to the new D: drive. I'm not sure what I've deleted from the D: drive, but I know that there is still a Windows directory. Can I run Windows95 from the D: drive, or better yet, glean the CD-Key from the D: drive for the reinstall?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

*stupid stupid*

Hax!

So this kind of answers a question I've had in the back of my mind for a while now: the CD-Key is not linked to the data on the actual CD at all? You just need a series of numbers that match some formula that Microsoft uses to calculate CD keys?

This explains why people say they can get CD-Key generators for Half-Life, etc.

Thx for the helpful, if illicit, advice.
