I found out today from one of TheVille admins that changing your fov was soon to be disabled and is now considered a cheat? This has sent me into rant mode.

I feel that here at TheVille that the admins and people here are VERY susceptilble to the very human nature of being afraid of what they don't understand. How many of you anti-Nemesis people actually tried it out before calling it a cheat? The same admin I asked to explain why it was considered a cheat admitted that he/she was still using the default settings because "i play the game the way the designers designed it". That admin then went on to explain to me that they thought that anything that wasn't in the game when it was released was a cheat, this included xhairs. That makes absolutley no sense because the game was designed to be altered, although, not in such a way that it broke the rules of the environment (ie: wallhacks, aimbots, speed cheats, etc..). I believe the designers left the option to config you're view in the game because they knew they could not come up with the best view for each individual. I will continue to play with my fov at 120. If that means I'm gonna be banned, do it. I don't wanna play somewhere that looks down upon personal preference when it comes to IN-GAME settings.

PS. I don't believe cheats are in-game settings, those are added-on. just thought i'd clarify that before people came back with the cheat argument.

i h00red out the custom tfc page leik nothing, and i'm sure others ahve too. rocket flares, conc sprite, new HUD, new medkit, new shotty, new supernail gun, new spanner, new cbar, new x-hairs, mulch_trench sounds, new console background.. and i'ms ure there is something else. only experience i've had with fov is when someone told me to put it on 200 and i freaked out! it was so weird, i spose 110/120 could be intersting, i may try it in game sometime but its one of those things that if it wasn't so easy to change then why is it there? i don't hack, don't know how so i guess i'm a little out fo the loop when people try to explain what is/isn't cheating.

FOV = Field of Vision or Field of View

It's a setting that affects how much of the screen you can see at once. The default setting is 90, I think. Smaller numbers give you a zoomed in effect, higher numbers zoom you out.

Try it for yourself in the console to see what it does. The extreme settings are the most fun. "fov 10" is like the Sniper's zoom mode, while "fov 179" is a freakin' acid trip.

I play with fov 130 btw, weirdest view you will ever see FYI: d3d is a cheat, it helps me see through water

Also for future reference I fov is maxed out at either fov 170 or 180, i forget exactly. Because past that opengl will flip your screen upside down and reverse your controls, due to znear being bigger that zfar, and the spectum for you to see having borders intersecting each other. Boy that's a mouthful

How is changing your fov cheating?

Everyone has access to this command...it would be like saying using your secondary weapon is cheating. True it doesn't come used straight out of the box but everyone has access to it.

So, is this where the ville is going? Absolutly no modifications to your game. Kinda seems boring and we'll have to delete the sound pack (and the realism pack too) off the website.

gg Reload Script. I can see ducking a sg as cheating. I'm not so sure why you can't edit the zoom on it and call it a cheat. I still hate snipers FOV or no FOV

The fov I'm referring to is the setting that gives all classes sniper zoom, the setting that lets you see behind you etc.... you don't consider those cheats?

I dunno, it's very hard to get any hack out of being able to zoom in like a sniper. Most "good" players tend to increase their fov thus zooming them out, instead of in. At the far end of the spectrum there have been reports of being able to see through walls, but it's really obvious and quite ineffective since your zoomed out so small that they look like ants.
