Initialy, I noticed a soldier with a flag run waaaaay fatser than I could as a medic. Since then, and inparticular in the last 24 hours, I've noticed several players using speed cheats. Who's going to hold their arms and legs down while I slug away at their guts?

If it was me or cherny we are not hacking, it is called bunnyhopping and it allows us to jump around really fast. Although I don't know what event you are talking about, but it is only a speed cheat if the person is also shooting fast and all of his other abilities(spy diguise, etc) are speeded up. Also, you cannot use a speed cheat for more than 2 seconds or you will freeze where ever you are.

The speedhacks you would see occur in bursts. A good way to tell for sure is by shooting someone up in the air. If you get them in one of their bursts they will fall extremely fast. Frag and I caught some guy the other night.

I know that I saw a soldier the other night racing around like a bat out of hell last night on another pub. The guy said that it was not a cheat but a bug with the game itself. Something about staying along the wall and jumping <Bunny Hopping> whatever.

Remember, if you happen to suspect someone of cheating, drop down your console and type "record cheater" or whatever you want to name the demo. Try to catch him "cheating" as much as you can. That way the admins can review the demos and make a conclusive decision.

Bhopping is reduced. You can only go from 100% speed to 150% speed, i believe. If you pass that, you immediately slow down.

150% of untouched soldier speed is not faster than a untouched medic.

...Or is it?

170%, and once you reach it, you go back to 110%, but if you are bunnyhopping consistantly you will only go back to about 115%.

Correct.

Bhopping does increase your speed and it will increase even faster when you bhop down a hill or uneven terrain.

So is bunny hopping classified as a 'no-no' here?

Another thing that will allow you to gain extra speed (and isn't a "cheat") is called chop-hopping. It is similar to bunnyhopping but it isn't capped, however it only works for a few seconds after an air landing.

Like most of the guys have said speed cheats nowadays tend to produce burst effects (see all). I remember seeing an old (more than 3 months ago) speed hack which speed up everything consistantly, but it virtually disappeared several patches ago.

Be zealous in your attempts to stop cheating, but insure that you are only stopping the "real" cheaters out there.
