Sound like a good formula for a blood bath to me. The noobs could call ourselves the "banana noobs" -- we come in green turn yella and die off in bunches.

How about a "mentor" night. Where a pro and a noob play on the same side and the pro works with the noob to improve their skill.

It was just a thought OK!

A BALL MOUSE?! you mean one of those horrible trackball mice? I can't see anyone but architects and drafters using those things. The best mouse for TFC I think is what I got now.

5 button Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0
Optical Wheelmouse.

I prefer the corded USB PS/2 because cordless mice you have to change the batteries. This mouse is super precise, and has 5 buttons for binding special commands like airstrikes, grenades, and detonating dispensers etc.

Who would decide who was pro and who wasn't?

A little something too. For Newbs. When I first started playing TFC I picked whatever class I felt like alot. I learned a large genral knowledge of the classes and got to use them pretty well. Especially Soldier and Sniper. After a while, I noticed the lack of really good HW's on the servers. I like a challenge, so I started practicing with HW. I practiced in empty servers, timing grenades, and jumping around, learning the maps. This was back in June. I started playing TFC I think in May, maybe July this year. But my biggest improvement has come lately, All I play is HW so I know everything about how he moves, and attacks and evades. I'm doing reeally well now because of this. Might I suggest you pick a favorite, and learn everything about it, and be the best at it you have ever seen. I've accomplished much in just a few months. Plus it doesn't hurt to have a fast connection.

Indeed, I have the same 5 button MS optical mouse and its great. Both Grenades , firing and menus all with a mouse click. 5th button for class specific functions (like airstrikes, or detonate dispenser etc) Highly recommend the afore mention mouse.

Magoo (ironically using an Optical Mouse)

I'm worse, I use a logitech 4 button wheel mouse AND a lefthanded fancy joystick. I use the mouse to aim, turn, fire and throw gren1 and the wheel to choose weapons.

I use the joystick to move - forward, backward, and left & right strafe. I use the joystick fire button for gren2 and some of its remaining buttons to jump, duck and reload. I also have a twist setting on the joystick which will turn me very fast. It also has a top hat which allows me to walk forward backward, walk-strafe left & right.

BUT I still suck. Practice, Practice, Practice. No time, no time, no stinking free time. DOH!!

yeah the first time i played tfc was at a friends and he had a track ball mouse, the ball was under the thumb and i got used to aimin like that
its easier to run around in a circle too, because you don't have to worry about the pad, i should get a bot so i can practice, and get better and maybe one day in the distant future i could be on the top five

Wow, this totally turned into a mouse topic. But the idea of "mentoring" is something I've been thinking about for a while, actually. (Not me doing the mentoring, mind you.) It would be a neat idea to set aside a server, and bring in one or two "elite" players to basically demonstrate what they do, and give tips and tricks. I'm betting there are a lot of people who would gladly volunteer to come in and be the "designated god" for a night, and a lot of newb/intermediate players who would show up to soak in the knowledge. Anyone else think it's a good idea? (Hmmm, I'm fighting the urge to cross-post right now.)
