Why can't I see sprays?

Online or local on a LAN game created from my machine. Either way I spray and hear the spray but I can't see anything. Any clues?

Is it a custom spray?? You might check your settings also. I think there is a setting to not show sprays. I may be wrong though.

You might want to see if you have downloads enabled, this could be a part of it.

Yep downloads are enabled. It started a few days ago. I have a new custom one but I can't see the default ones if I pick those either.

it could be a few problems, make sure you have ur settins correct..
cl_allowdownload 1
cl_allowupload 1

second thing when you made ur custom spray did u make sure to make the last color on the pallete pure blue 0 0 255,

and last thing do u go into the custmize menu? if so reload ur pdecal file
and try again.

I hope the above works...when that happened to me, I ended up reintalling half-life. Kind of the brutal way to go about it but it did work!

Yeah, mine does the same thing, I can hear the spray...just can't see it. However others in game say they can. Its been this way for sometime now, so i've just ignored it, but it'd be cool if someone could help to fix it.

Can you see things like explosion marks from things like rockets or grenades(that is on the ground or on a wall)?

Some lower rezes in d3d dont display sprays.

To answer Borg's question, no I can't see marks on the walls made by rockets and nades. To answer Chan I was running D3D at 1024, I tried it at 1152 and still no go so I switched back to OpenGL. Guess what, can see all that stuff now.

The question is why can't I see them in D3D? I switched to it a couple weeks ago cause the maps were brighter. I miss seeing the sprays so I'll stick with OpenGL unless someone can clue me into what's wrong with my D3D config.

oops I didnt see this thread until after you already solved the problem. I had that same problem and it worked when i switched to Opengl from D3D. It used to work though on D3D until I got a new video card. After that its had to be on opengl to see blood on the ground and spraypaints. No idea why.

i have trouble with my custom decals sometimes and i didnt even bother to load them

.. color logos don't seem to work and on another note opengl doesn't work at all reven though i have 3d3 and some of my console commands don't work arugh? have i dont anything different and re loading hl can be bothersome after a time

.. so i stick with what i have... sometimes i can't see my logo either in black white but what could be the trouble there? anyways this tip on sprays is very helpful to me and i wanna thx all for pointing these out to me!!

I seem to recall Rob posting a tip about a file that tended to get rather huge over time with custom spray downloads etc.....anyone remember that?
Might be worht deleting it and starting over.

That is the custom.hpk file. it has all the sprays from all the people who have custom sprays in it. Plus the basic.

It is in the TFC folder.

Mine is 3 mb right now, some get to be quite large. I think at one time I had 15 or so mb stored there.
I don't know if it will solve your problems but is will delete alot of stuff you dont need.

You can delete the whole file safely. when you enter a game it will create another automaticly.

Your FPS will be much higher without it on, there are a few other tweaks you can make to drop you lag and raise your fps. IM me or find me on IRC if you want more info.

And no these aren't scripts or hacks or anything of that variety. Simple changes to your download rate etc.
