Ok got a preview style thing for you.
As I said I work slowly on maps (haven't been able to contact cstone either). But download this:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/standrewsuni/citygold.zip
(Put the .bsp in tfc/maps and the .wad in /tfc)

The preview is of what I hope to be the centre cap point of the warpath style map.
Now first, ignore the headless bird, that's annoying as hell to get right, also ignore the non see-thru ladders.
I wanna know a few things:

1) What do you think the building/temple is made of?
2) Do you think the the torches are an effective way of lighting it?

Not sure what it looks like. Kinda looks like a gold colored marble. And I do like the torches. They seem to add to the effect of the temple. Plenty of light from them. Looks cool so far!!

I looked at what it was made of for a while and came up with I have no idea. I liked the lighting but I think that it goes from bright to dim to much I think it would be better if it was a little more constant. The nice high roof made it fun to do some crazy conc's inside.

BRN got closest.
It's meant to be made of gold blocks, unfortunately finding a gold texture out there is nigh on impossible.
The bird shaped thing's also meant to be made outta gold but it's looking a bit pish just now.

As for the lighting...I'll experiment with other ideas...might add extra lighting to make it most constant, but keep the torches too.

The rest of the map will probably be more outdoors unless I come up with something radical during the design process

Anyone notice the bloody handprint on the left side of the temple above the water (left side from bird's POV)? Finally figured out decals.

I think I might be able to help you with the golden texture. I can ask around on the boards that I hang out at. One board is full of professional 3D graphic artists... Also I might get photo shop this weekend so maybe I can change some sand to a golden brick format for ya . A tip I might give you is for the bird-thingy-o-death. Why not make a 3D model of it. Export it as a .mdl and then just add it to your level? If you want a 3D modeling program (or need one) to do this then go here: http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/. Its low polly, but was made to make Half-Life Models. Its great when you consiter its $20 USD.

Well I hope it helps,

Potato, if you could get a texture that'd be great!
Would have to be gold block style, kinda like (if you've ever seen it) the end of The Mummy 2.

I'll look into that program for modelling to see what it's like when I get home on tuesday (at g/f's right now)

Well, I might be able to do that gold block thing. I will see if I can do it with Paintshop as well as Photoshop . Maybe I can have some fun with that . THe program is great. It has like 10-15 export formats and import formats. Its low polly but its worth the $20.

This is the original texture
the blocks were that with a darkened edge round it

Would prefer if the texture was less...ripply

Nope, got it from the net, like I said I wanted a gold texture and couldn't find any, so that made a substitute til I bothered to go looking for one

May be able to save you the trouble
download the map again (re-textured it)

The textures aren't lined up, and I haven't got round to using that model program yet.
