Doesn't really deserve discussion - since the voters were probably non-existant anyway, the list doesn't count for squat as it is not very representative is it ?

Axa, don't you think the list is better for NOT having been voted on? If you took a vote of the "best bands from outside the USA", you'd probably end up with a vicious battle for first between Britney Spears and the Back'SYNC Boys.
Other random observations:
- Do you think they added the "outside the USA" criteria because they were afraid Fred Durst would kick their puny record critic a$$es if his band didn't make the list?
- How brave is it to make a list of bands that the majority of your readership has never heard? The reader can't intelligently dispute the inclusion of something they aren't familiar with. "Duh, I've never heard of Aterciopelados, but they probably suck."
- Two British bands made the list. They are both depressing and have names that end in "-head". Couldn't they have at least picked MotorHEAD, who aren't depressing, but are merely ugly?

Is this an article or a side bar?
I tried to find it in the Time web site and came up with zero.
Have to look up each band to find out. No time now maybe later.

Once again nobody considers Canadian bands because they actually can sell records in the US (Barenaked Ladies, Godsmack, for example) |

I cannot believe ABBA didnt make the list. Robert E Lee will be shocked to see that his favorite band isnt there.
I think we should start a new poll. Who actually reads Time?

Portishead is a great band. I think they would be considered trip hop. I actually bought one of there cd's a few years ago.

Hmmm, 2 bands from Britian and one for Ireland? Appears to me that all the talent is in the UK. Greebo, you had best try out as a songwriter!

-Hey Tarzan
Styx is from Chicago (not exactly proud of this.)
-Killer Roofcutter...you need some education about the history of music
CHICAGO bands since this list is better than the alleged worldwide list. They have at least some notice in the industry
-Smashing Pumpkins
-Styx
-Urge Overkill
-Liz Phair
-Stabbing Westward
-Chicago
-REO Speedwagon (ugh)
-Disturbed
-Mest
-Cheap Trick (Rockford is close enough)
-Survivor (not proud of this)
-Weezer (Kenosha, WI)
-Linkin Park (pretty sure of this)
-Shellac
Favorite INTERNATIONAL bands
England- Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, The Beatles, and UFO
Scotland- Travis (shoot the Bay City Rollers please)
Germany- The Scorpions
Ireland- U2 (The Cranberries ain't terrible)
Austrailia- AC/DC (anyone else hate the Little River Band when they come on the damn radio?)
Canada- Rush, Triumph, BTO, Anything Tom Cochrane (he's still big there), April Wine, and no not Loverboy. Even though I hear JD is a big Loverboy fan. He probably likes Air Supply too since they are Canadians.
Sweden- Any country that produces Abba, Roxette and the Ace of Base as their best three bands deserves to be made fun of.
Japan- Any 80's Metal band that has gone there to continue their career.
The point? Who cares about the list published...mine is better!

Best judge of a UK band, if they can sing Wiskey in the jar and do it with heart. I have it somewhere by Tin Lizzy (sp?) and Metallica, good stuff.

I think most of these bands are from the US...but they are some of my favorites and are worth checking out if you havent heard them...
-Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...best banjo player in the world, along with the best Bass player ever Victor Wooten...
-Jamiroqui...they suck live but their CD's groove...
-Ozomatli...Best band i have ever seen live hands down. They are a mix of latin funk, with brass, a DJ, a chinese bongo player, a few guitar players and a guy that raps on a few songs. I would highly suggest checking this band out.
