I suppose this could have gone in the off-topic thread, but I felt something this satanically demonic deserved its own thread.
I need to bring to everyones attention a conspiracy of great evil going un-noticed in the world:
8.5 x 11 in. paper is no longer 8.5 x 11 in.
I noticed this while looking at a pack of new blank paper today, thinking 'my, this paper looks... really small...' and I checked the thing, and it says, 8 x 10.5 in! I then looked around at everything, and all paper, folders, notebooks, etc, from within the last year, are 0.5 square-inches smaller than they used to be!
The paper companies are stealing our paper slowly, all the while completely ignored by the world. God only knows what they will do next... |

The standard square format of 4.5×4.5 in = 114×114 mm we all use everday lets hope they don't shrink this one down. This is the toilet paper standard.
Here is the weight and size of american and european papers.

hmmmm, I was under the impression that notebook paper has been shorter than copier paper for a while now. My printer paper that I just bought is a whopping 8.5 x 11 as always. In fact, I just looked at an old spiral notebook that I have had for about 3 years now and the paper measures 10.5 x 8.5. Perhaps you're just a little slow Goldom. Maybe it has been assumed by most that the paper has been 8.5 x 11 simply because that is the standard for copier paper and printer paper. _________________

I have actually noticed that different sprials have different sizes as well. It could also depend on the type of paper it is. I don't really know. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Wow, and only Goldom would care enough to notice that our PAPER is smaller. But I do agree that it is messed up that they have changed the size, lets email the paper companies to complain. Its the right thing to do. _________________ I'm gonna die, oh well. |

Goldom,
8"x10.5" paper has been around for years. It was available when I was in Jr. Hi. in the early 1980's. It was called "standard notebook" paper then and was not even uniformly 8"x10.5" in size--but always somewhat less than 8.5"x11". It was cheaper and really for classwork it doesn't make any difference. The uniform 8.5"x11" paper was a little more costly (better quality control) and was used for copying and typing. Spiral notebooks are by far the worst for accurate sizing (and from an instructor's point of view are the real 3vil in the world!)
Anyway, they have been shorting us about 9.5 sq.in. of paper per sheet for decades (which always meant that last calculus problem in college ended up on one sheet of paper all by itself--doh!) _________________
