I'm probably about to wound our north of the border players...so sorry in advance. Is July 1st when you broke away from England, like we did on the 4th? Or is this something I totally have never heard of before. _________________

On this day in 1867, Canada became it's own entity, not just a colony of Britain. Canada still did remain attached to Britain, for example Canada was instantly involved in WW1 the second the English declared war.
Anyway enough the boring History lesson!
Happy B'day Canada!!

Uuh yes, I can probably say i've only met 1 canadian in my life, but Happy Canada Day to all you others out there! Hope its an exciting one?? I dunno what you actually do for it, just know what it is.
and for all you others out there wondering, this is the jist of what it is....i think
Quote: | Did you know.....that before 1982 Canada Day had been known as Dominion Day, First of July, Confederation Day, and July the First? Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to downplay Canada's colonial origins. Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day." |

Oh well, I was going to post a Happy Canada Day to JD and all his fellow Hosers but I overslept and he beat me to it. Well Happy Dominion Day, oops I mean Canadian Sort of Independance Day.
I've spent a lot of time in Canada (buisness meetings ) and can say from experience that the majority of the people are friendlier and calmer than most of us in the states. If it wasn't for the taxes there I might have considered moving there at one time. For those of you who have never been to Canada, it is a gret place to visit?....In The Summer !!
To give you an idea about Canada, On July 1 1980 when O'Canada was adopted as the official anthem, it was sung simultaniously in English and in French so that noone would be offended, even though only 1 province in Canada is officially bilingual. That is the type of people they are.
Enjoy....We at the Ville are so fortunate to be able to help celebrate ALL the various holidays with our Brothers and Sisters from around the world.
