Should this card have a heat-sink or a fan? Mine has a heatsink and I have heard that the Geforce2 MX has trouble with overheating and producing the troubles that I had experienced with locking up completely. Please tell me if your card, if you have a geforce2 MX, has a heatsink or a fan. I would also like to know if I should buy a fan for the video card. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

I have bought nothing extra for my video card and it is fine. I do however have four fans in my case, 2 of which happen to be next to my video card. _________________

I think I only have three fans in my system total. One in my power supply, one on my processor, which is almost at the other end of the computer, and one at the bottom of the computer next to the processor, I guess to vent the air out of the system. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Oh yeah, I have a fan on my processor too, of course. What brand card do you have? _________________

GForce2 MX...maybe lin is right about that bottle of vodka after all... You should get another fan but it doesn't have to be for video cooling specifically. An Antec Turbo fits into a PCI slot and barely makes any noise. My case temp dropped 12 degrees when I installed mine. Not a lot, I already had 5 fans but I can feel the air blowing out of the case now. _________________

Did you say it does not have a fan on it already? Well, mine does. _________________

I've got a PCI slot fan that worked wonders on the temp of my computer. I only had 1 on the power supply before...stupid compact cases. |

No, my video card doesn't have its own fan, it just has a heatsink. So that may be the problem then with everything. I wonder if this could be related to my sound problem. How much would I be likely to spend on getting either a fan just for the graphics card or the pci card fan? _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Fans are cheap. Under $10, I would guess. But then again, I don't live in your area. _________________

I have the same grapics card, but no fan is available that I'm aware of. The slot fan is about 15-20 dollars, but it's totally worth getting one. |

Well, I will be stuck in the forums until I can get the money to buy a fan and find a place to buy one. Will running just windows cause any problems with overheating as long as I don't play any games? _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Better buy a couple more. Or maybe just run a freon line inside and get it over with, geez . _________________

Windows should not cause any overheating issues (unless you are beyond tweeked). I run intense cpu and gpu games and rendering programs.
Fans are cheap. Case fan is about 4 bucks.
It saves me ( luckily my mb monitors cpu and mb heat as well as all fan rpm rates.)
Cpu was orig a Northwood P4 2.0. Now it is at about 2.6. 10 Deg heat gain, but well within tollerances. The GPU is a Geforce 4 ti 4600 128mb card. It is well overclocked also.
Fans are cheapest way to keep you sys owrking.
