|
|
I was informed by a friend of mine that it was possible to download an upgrade that turned ME into XP. I looked around on the site a bit, and i found absolutly nothing. I was curious if anyone knew where i could do this, or, if it was true at all?
Figured you all know more techical things then anyone else i know. Sorry if i'm just meaninglessly spamming the fourms cause noone can help. _________________

If i could buy it, i would. But i'm on a budget, and upgrading my OS is not on the top of my 'to buy' list, sadly. _________________

Hey I'm anxious to go to XP too, but I have to make the Honor Roll in school so my father can take my PC to Micro Center to get my system upgraded. We made a lil deal. |

personlly I would just stay with 98 or ME . Spending the money for an os that will take another year or so to get most of the bugs out just sucks.
I feel for you on Me though... |

I'm anxious to get to -any- OS other than ME. I'd rather have win 3.1 i think. ME is depressing and frustrating to use. Arg. _________________

Sry JR but ME is the worst excuse for an OS that MS has come up with. I would go for a 98Se system for the gaming aspects. I've heard nothing about a free download to upgrade ME to XP, but then I wouldn't go near ME so I might not be the best source. You might want to download something like mempro to do a constant memory recovery in the background, it helps a lot. |

I've become acustomed to my Hourly reboots: Getting that would be a tradition breach.
Oh well, hopefully i can manage to scrounge money for a windows XP upgrade. _________________

going from ME to 98SE would be an upgrade...... :p
Also, if you are going to upgrade to XP, do a clean install rather then an upgrade. Upgrading usually causes more problems, and a clean install works for the best. XP has been out for about 8 months now, so almost all bugs have been fixed. There are only some hardware compatibility issues remaining, but other then that, it's great. |

If you completely clean out your hard drive of ME you can buy the upgrade to XP without having ME on your system. When you install the upgrade it will ask you for your original OS disc. Once it reads it it will ask that you take it out and reinstall the XP upgrade disc and the install will finish. That might at least save you $100 for the full install disc for XP at least. I had a friend do that and had no problems. Once you do that, take your ME disc and a gallon of gasoline and ...... _________________

The only OS that I will use is Windows 2000 Pro service pack 2. ME is the worst OS I have ever seen. XP looks to be good, but I have never worked on a sys with it.

How does one D/L XP and use it. I thought with XP you had to call them to
get it fully functioning? |
