I remeber, I remember!

Hell, I did a post with a timeline for the servers not too long ago which was going to copy in here but damned if I can find it.

It was a history of the ville from when it started as Turkeyburgerville through its transitions to current day.

If anyone remembers where I posted that I would appreciate it getting a cut and paste back to here.

Here it is my old friend JD....

-August 2001 - Servers renamed to The Ville
-July 2001 - Avantiville 3 is added. (Thanks LlamaBeans)
-Mayish 2001 - Avantiville 2 goes Avanti/Warpath after trying several
different map combos. (Can you say "They hate Cornfield")
-March 2001 Avantiville website comes up - Thanks Rob.
-Mar 2001 Avantiville 2 is added.
-Feb 2001 Avantiville 1 returns.
-Jan 2001 Avantiville 1 goes DoD and is called War Wounds.
-Oct 2000 Avantiville 1 is created.
-Oct 2000 Turkeyburgerville goes away, Warpathville is tried briefly.
-Sept 2000 JD becomes an admin at Turkeyburgerville.
-Spring 2000 JD Discovers Turkeyburgerville, is hooked and spends far too
much time there. Learns all about sniping, respawn campers and some of the
perils of running a server from a fella called Eddie Munster. Also meets
some interesting people called Cadman and JohnCarterofMars.

Ah yes, the good ol' days. I knew Greebo before he was an Admin. Actually, Ive been here before him. Believe it or not, me and Greebo had a rough start. Here's how it goes(wavy flashback lines):

I was playing one night on Avantiville, and lousy Greebo was owning me with an AC. So I started criticizing him for playing HWG. And from there we got into a big fight about this and that. I left pretty mad. The next day, I came back, and guess who I met, Greebo. Well, I said I was willing to make a fresh start if he was. He agreed, and from there, the rest is history.

Now me and Greebo are the best of friends, but it almost never happened. Sorry Greebs for causing you any trouble. And thanks for being such a nice guy.

No, im not crying. Ive just got something in my eye. (sniff sniff)

Ahhh yes... the old-school of Avantiville.

When I first started coming to Avantiville, I didn't realy think about being a regular player, I just ended up there because I really enjoyed Avanti at the time, and guess what server ran the map nonstop??

I remeber somebody had planted some xen plants (those weird looking things at the end of Half-Life single player) around the Red respawn areas. They added a nice touch to the map.

I mostly played sniper and spy back in those days. Even made POTW once.
PROOF: http://www.theville.org/potw/april_16_22.php

And slowly I just started caring a whole lot less about the stats. To me they make the game more stressful, and then less fun.

And as I started to frequent the server more and more, I got to know its (at that point) most frequent player Greebo (of former {STAU} fame). Speaking of STAU wheres mr FlankAttack? Anyhow my Greebo evil admin story goes like this: I was playing on the server at one point and went to get some food, or something and Greebo, being the dedicated admin he is, gave me the boot for being idle to long.

And from there we went on to work on the infamous Breakout, and so bacame fairly good friends I think.

And so looking back, I'm glad to see that Avantivil-- excuse me, The Ville, is still going strong adding its 4th and hopefully 5th server.

So here's to you Server (and admins) if I were old enough, I would drink to your health. Hmmmm.. anybody over 21 in the eastern North Carolina area??

Actually I remember what first drew flanks and I to this server permanently - was a message that said "Get your stats at http://tfc.clarkgraphics.com" Or something similar.
So we became stat heads and started trying to own everyone.
I remember when we didn't know what tpf was and kept taunting robert saying how STAU was always above TPF in the stats.
I remembering waiting in anticipation for the server to go up and racing flanks to be first online - usually getting messages from the server (Robert) asking if we lived here or something.
I rememeber when Flankattack and I *had* to start on blue otherwise when we went on defense we'd never get to attack again! We could let them have 1 and 2, then hold 3 for an entire game!
Stats were important to me at first, dunno why, seems silly now - I did get top 5 on a fairly regular basis.

Now they're less important, as cstone say's they make life too stressful.

Speaking of flankattack - he's gettin a 2nd phone line + net connection on tuesday, I'll try to get him to make an appearance then

yes, the g'old days. I was a newbie back then, and i went by the name lone gunman. I really sucked. It's like I will always feel the stab from either Mike Rotch or Porchmonkey in my back. Then, snakeye and death would always snipe me. Jagermeister used to be in a lot, now he is back!!! And superzero was the superengie back then (where is he by the way?)

Well, actualy I don't miss those days, because I was getting owned like crazy. Now that I've improved, it's a lot better. But too bad people just move on and not come back to the ville to visit.

What am I saying? Oh, who cares?! Good job Rob and the rest of the admin staffs. You guys have done a terrific job. Made my life a lot more interesting, because I don't have a TV in my apt. see ya'll in the ville

Well, Gentlemen, you should be thanked much more than we of the city council, because without you, the 'Ville would never be! I can't think of any group of regulars that I would rather have come to visit us at the servers. I remember in the days of darkness, before there was light when Roberto and I started Turkeyburgerville...

There were hardly any people interested in playing on our servers. Those were the days when there were 1500 other servers on the WON list and ours was buried in the overwhelming quantity of it all!

Robertro and I racked our brains trying to figure out what we could do to get more ppl to play on our beautiful server... HMMMMMMMMM... And then the new patch came out with this map called Avanti. Its beautiful textures and excellent layout were all it took. Turkeyburgerville(a llama magnet if I ever saw one) was converted to Avantiville and thats when we really started to get the good players and good ppl. Of course there where the nasty llamas still, but they were always out numbered.

Anyway, a little flashback into the history of the 'Ville is always nice to remember. Thanks again you guys, for making The 'Ville what it is today!!!!*bows deeply trying to rub that piece of dust out of his eye*
