Twisted29 was hosting a game of Warpath the other night and we observed some strange things. First, we noticed that Blue soldiers were killing Red units with ease, and Red was having a hard time killing blue. This happened no matter what person was on a side, blue always killed red decisively, often multiple units.
Then we did a scientific methodology. Blue soldier and Red soldier, fresh from respawn, walked up and faced each other. When Blue shot Red (in the chest), Red went to 50 life/57 armor. When Red shot Blue (in the chest), Blue went to 87/172. Further testing showed that Blue was far more resilient to being killed than Red was, with all weapons and all unit types.
Has anyone seen this before?? |

How many people were on each side, or didn't that matter? We were practicing 2 on 3 last night and it seemed that the team of two (red) was dominating the team of three (blue). You'd have two fresh HWguys go toe to toe, and the red one would win every time. Does the game compensate for uneven teams?

No - But there are times when I'm shooting invisible bullets. A few times I've had a player running directly at me, I've aimed at his chest, and nothing happens after I let go.. no blood, no step back with the force of the bullet (Sniping)... and yet he is able to kill me in a fraction of a second of him opening fire, so I know I wasn't shooting at a fellow teammate spy...
Also, a few duals agianst a HW while playing HW have ended with him killing me 3-4 times before I get him and he is nowhere near anywhere where he could have gotten more health and armour as I respawn..
I always put it down to them having a ping time of near 0 and mine about 2-300 higher..

Our testing was done with two players on each side. The players switched teams and blue was still stronger, no matter what the makeup, team score, quantity etc. was. |

Ok guys heres what I've been noticing for a while now.
1 Thom was able to kill me as eng last night with 1 stotgun blast. he was red I was blue
2 When he was HW he would mow me down like a magic wand in seconds. then it seemed to even out, but like he said he always came out on top when our health was equal.
3. While playing in The Ville servers other Hw's would have this magic wand effect also mowing people down 5 at a time Etc. and some spys could be hit with rockets numerous times throwing them about the map with out killing them.
4.some games my rockets seem to kill snipers in 2 hits and some it takes 4 or so.
now this could be just bad shooting but it's happened a lot and I've tried to judge these occurences with that in mind.
5 so maybe there is a weird bug. I don't know, but for the games it sounds like we all will get an equal oppurtinity to be effected.
I sure would be interested on any information on other weird occurances though, as thinking someone is cheating just dosen't seem to be the case. I've searched for cheats to explain these things but haven't found any that would be available. I used Google to reserach have no idea where else to look.

To summarize what Roof is saying: If you are being owned by Thom, there must be a bug.
And ApacheEyes, I've noticed the same phantom bullet thing, but only on Acropolis for some reason. You'll watch a HWGuy walk across the yard and ignore three straight clean head shots. Or maybe it is just bad aim.

Yes Cycomom and I noticed something like this a long time ago, but thought it had something to do with crosshairs or specific Half Life installs. We have other differences between our copies of half Life, like I can't get the more realistic soundpack to work on my copy. We never looked into it very closely. It has been mentioned that some colors may have a slight advantage on certain maps but noone ever followed up on it as far as I know.
I also have the no effect sniper shots on acropolis2. I was dead on and they weren't firing and I shot and nothing happened the other day. I notice I seem to have no effect on HWs sometimes even when they are shooting someone else and are barely moving. I figured it was ping related. I know that ping has major effect on HWs since we play against these friends in CA and the HW nearest the host (lowest ping) always owns the other HW of equal skill. (And shut up anyone who wants to say there is no skill in HW, you will just be showing your ignorance). I found a site that claimed they tested and found that there was a bug where HW with low pings fired more shots. Never confirmed this though.
I really find it hard to believe a bug like that would go unnoticed so long, but I guess stranger things have happened. |

Actually, there is a server setting that allows the team with fewer players to cause more damage. tfc_balance_scores 0 could be set to 1 in your server config which causes this.

See now, Rob, I was just going to ask about that. Nurplit observed when Warhammer and I were doing our tests, the blue team had a higher score. He thought that the game was giving advantage to the team with the higher score.
