Hello Everyone:
I'm new to this forum, but not new to half-life/TFC. I've been playing this game on and off since it was first released and the first and only team map was 2fort. I recently got back into playing TFC again, and I been wondering what happened to all the good gameplay?
There used to be so many TFC servers (even when there was counter-strike as alternative gameplay) and such a wide array of maps (my half-life folder itself is 4gig) and now there seems to be none anymore. Older maps that used to require some form of teamwork seem to have become nothing more than spamming deathmatches. Anyone that exhibits any skill whatsoever in a given class gets flamed left and right for being a cheater. Everyone seems to be very eager to sit behind their own desks and slam and curse any and everyone. Really ... what happened?
Which brings me to my other topic, thin skins, which caused me to join this forum. Since I got back into TFC, when I play, I look for what map I like, not any particular server. Since I've been playing again, I'm sure that there have been other times when I've played on a Ville.org server, and since I always have my cheating-death running, and keep quiet most of the time, when it comes to the server rules in the beginning of the game, I rarely read through it as I figure I'm pretty safe. So I'm playing the map Avanti on one of the servers, either as a medic or a pyro (i don't remember) and I venture beyond the gates at the bottom of the town, and I get threatened by some other guy for going into the respawn. Then, after #1 is capped, I'm down at the area by the fountain, and this guy is beefing again (since this game first came out people have always been complaining) and he's saying he's got screen shots and he's gonna bring it up to the forums, and I'm thinking "what gives?" So I join the forum and see that that guy is a member who just joined the day before. Where are the boundries drawn? I feel that the game developers have had plenty of time and plenty of revisions to stop opposing team members from entering the other teams spawns (they could have them die upon crossing spawn lines) but they havn't done anything about it, except put the auto-detect guns as they have always done. I'm pretty sure that they have done this because this is really just a game, and not everything can always go the way you want it, and that if there is an obstacle (ie: medic in respawn) that you have to learn to deal with it.
I understand that on these servers there are rules (I'm sure the owners will understand me as they know the relationship between cost and responsibility) and that if someone is running a cheat, being racist, homophobic or downright beligerant and doesn't respond to warnings, by all means ban them, but it seems like it is a little thin skinned if someone breeches the rule once, some guy wants to be so gung-ho as to actually discuss such a non-issue and get someone banned.
My experience with gamming (and I've been doing it a while as I am over 35) is that you gotta let the crap and garbage roll off the back a little and be a little more flexible, as in the real world (not the high schoo or college world) you will find that not everything goes your way, and inflexability only leads to your own failure.
I hope we can all have some nice games and play some good maps ( I miss cornfeild)

If 1 had been capped, and you were by the well, there's no problem there. The only problem I noticed in your description was going past the gates, as physically entering that is against server rules.
A detailed description of the definition of "respawn areas" can be found here .
I wouldn't worry too much about that, we've all be complained about once or twice, I think...

Hmmmmm.....
Read the rules. No respawn camping. No killing in the respawn, no infecting in the respawn, stay out of the respawn. It's simple, it's what makes the ville a great place to frag.
I can completely understand how someone can not like the rule and their choice is to find a server who allows this kind of activity. I came to play here because of that rule and I have stayed because of the rules and how fairly they are enforced.
Call it thin skinned or what ever you want, but it is what it is.
I suspect however that you'll find The Ville is a great place to play as long as you can live by the rules. Law and order is not bad, it's been working well here for years and has allowed us to grow to be (in my humble opinion) the best place in the world to play.
Relax, don't be a llama and stay out of the respawns. |

Go HERE and see the respawn camping rules of Avanti.
Your choice if you want to stay or leave.
We don't ban for single occurances and new people are always given oppurtunities to continue playing.
Since you have come and read whats here and read the MOTD you are in the few that actually pay attention to what and where they play. I hope you stick around.
