I have come across quite a bit of squabbling on TVI about what the actual definition of Spawn Camping is.
I know what the defined areas are for spawn, and I know that you are not allowed to attack anyone spawning in those areas. If someone runs into one of those areas, can you chase them in and attack them, or do you have to let them run away?
If you chase them through the spawn without attacking them, can you attack them once they reach the other side, and are not in the defined Spawn Zone?
If somebody is sitting in a Spawn Zone and attacking out of it (for example a Sniper sitting behind the open gates and attacking out of it), are you allowed to attack them? If I am a spy, can I run through the gate and knife a Sniper from behind?
Basically, some people think that Spawn Zones should be safe havens, and others think that you can attack anybody as long as they are not respawning, or trying to get out of respawn right after respawing. What exactly do the Gods state?

I'm not a god, but here's my thoughts: If they're shooting at me from inside/run into it after shooting at me, they're fair game. If they've done nothing to me, I should not attack them. |

Right on Whyb. If they are HIDING LIKE SNIPERS in spawn the hell with them they are fair game. Someone runs into spawn to GET AWAY the same applies. IMHO

I think we are working on the rules again. As of right now, you can NOT go behind the gates and attack, no matter what class you are and what they are doing behind the gates. All you can do if you are a spy is use your dart gun, throw a grenade.......do they have a shotgun? If they do, you can use that. You cannot run behind the gates and stab them. That is the way the rules state right now. If you are fighting them and you take their health down and they run back behind the gates, then they are taking the easy way out. You can't chase them behind the gates and whip on them. This is how the rules state right now, once again. As far as I know, it is only a rule for the gates. If they are trying to cap three and the run into their respawn area after you hammer them for a bit, for safe haven, as far as I know you can chase them in there and keep hammering them. Just be careful to try to not hit people respawning at that time. I guess. Respawn camping/killing is a tough call at times. That is why I warn a few times. I myself have been battling in one area and they cap a new point and the area I was in, is now the respawn point. Am I suppose to leave without finishing the battle? Now when it comes to medics, I think they know exactly what they are doing and I will only warn them once. Hopefully we will have some new rules sometime down the line.

In my opinion, as long as someone is ont respawning, they are fair game. I think the rules should only apply to people respawning, and the Spawn Zones should not be safe havens. Of course, it only matters what the Gods think. I would love to know what Rob and JD have to say.

I won't speak for JD but I will pass on something he said in a different thread about chasing someone into the respawn area. I would also like to point out that I agree with this stance. Also if snipers are firing from the respawn area, let your teams snipers take care of them.
JD said IMHO:
The respawn areas are a refuge, if the player runs into it and hides or heals up he is not helping his team on the attack and the defender has accomplished the same thing as killing him. You can enter a respawn area on Avanti but at your own risk (for health/packs or Nades). If your detected you cannot defend yourself until you have exited.
( I think he made an excellent point that fragging someone who has reached the respawn area will actually only serve the purpose of getting them fully healthed up quicker, since that is where they will be when they respawn)

So.... what about the demo that launch grenades into respawn in the direction of the snipers or anyone else..... or the ones that start droppinn grenades before the gates are even open?

You aren't spawning right beyond the gates when the gates are closed. You spawn around the building. So, is *on the other side of the gates* really a respawn? I never thought it was. |
