I have two computers on a lan and am using ICS, while playing half life on the host compter, I have lag spikes that occur every few seconds, this is without having the client computer on. When I try to play on the client computer using the connection established by the host computer, the game is fine, no lag spikes, occasionally a connection problem but not too often. I woul enjoy having the host computer being able to play TFC online again, since I didn't always have the lag spikes.

i have similar problem like this except i play on a client computer and I always get "Warning:Connection Problem". It says i timed out and the only way i can connect to any server again is by restarting my computer. It doesn't seem like this happens when the host computer is turned off though. Anyone know why this happens?

I have never used Windows ICS, so I don't know the answer to that. However, I have had problems with my own cable internet connection halting all data transmission for several seconds then kicking in for a second or so of high speed traffic, then lagging again. This can cause both the server listing update problem, Borg was talking about and the Connection problem. Eventually the cable company fixed it. If it is only with one PC, maybe it is something ICS related. Check out places like http://www/Speedguide.net

and

http://www.duxcw.com

for help with that kind of stuff.

You could also look into buying a router if you have broadband. They have gotten fairly cheap and are very efficient internet connection sharing devices that also can act as a firewall for greater security. Just a thought.

Good luck,

FD

Thanks, I will look into those sites, but I only have 56K and not cable or dsl. I only use the internet on one computer at a time, so that is not the problem. I hope these sites will help. I will get back to you if I find out anything.

My guess is the client is sucking up most of the bandwith leaving the host to get whats left over, you probably have to change some sort of configuration settings or use a differnt program altogether such as wingate or something like that. Just my 2 Drachmas
