Some jackass of a customer at work put a power on password on one of our demo computers at work. It's not a windows password or a screensaveer password. It says somethings along the lines of: power on pass... and it makes some weird symbols when you try and enter the password. Any know how I can get rid of it? Nad prevent it from happening again??

You'll have to rip the computer open and set a jumper on the motherboard to bypass the BIOS password. Your computer manual should tell you how.

Hmm, there a few nice ones out there like that. I don't remember how, or if there was a way to bypass it beyond knowing the password. I know my friend had one like that on his computer since all his roommates liked to use his computer. His only allowed you to try the password twice before it shut the computer down and the next time it was restarted you would have to give a special admin password in before it would unlock to let you type the other password.
{edit} Ok Ok Warhammer, I figured it was something like that but I didn't want to try and guess and have him screw it all up.

Sounds like it's a motherboard password. You can take out the motherboard battery, or some motherboards place where you can jump the password to reset. You might be able to prevent this by creating a password for it in the first place, which won't allow one to be added unless you know that origional one (or reset it). Refer to your motherboard manual for how to do this, they should provide you some information about resetting the password as well.

{edit} You guys must've beat me by a nano second posting this. After reading the posts, there might be another way around it. You could possibly use a BIOS password cracking utility, but I would personally try reading the information on your motherboard and do it that way. If it doesn't work, then look for those cracking programs (sorry no links, don't ever use 'em){/edit}

And you can't even enter your BIOS, huh? I know, as has been said, some MBs can be reset by removing and replacing the battery. Give it a try. If you don't have a manual, contact the MB manufacturer. They will be able to tell you what to do.

once you flip the jumper find out how to enter your BIOS screen (mine is like holding F10) holenter your bios and look for something along the lines of pwer on password and diable it. then it is safe if you would like to turn it off flip the jumper again and boot up normally
