You ever wonder how we get you guys without you picking up on you, and how we pick you fellas off so easily? I'll give you some basics but I won't reveal everything. First, learn to strafe crouch-jump. This sounds hard but is one of the best techniques for any class. For snipers, if you can strafe crouch-jump, pop a shot off at the unsuspecting snipe, and get away without them knowing what happened. Secondly, NEVER STAND STILL! Only stand stil for one second to take a shot and then move away from where you were. Next to sentries, snipers are a HUGE target, which means you have to be very alert. Third, learn to switch weapons quickly. I've had hw guys sneak up on me and attack, and my life has been saved many times by the autorifle (I got 7 kills on hw wih it). If you are in a pinch, screw aiming, bust out the autorifle, toss a grenade and spray and pray.

I love snipers that stay zoomed in on their targets. Move around all you want, people will sneak up from behind and mow you down. Remember it only take 2-3 shotgun shells to take out a snipers.

If you want to snipe, keep your head up. Look around you peroidically, or else i'll stick a knife in you....

Another thing, KEEP YOUR RIFLE PRIMED. While a sniper has virtually no armor or health the best defense against an attacker is to take them out before they can get off a round. So when you are walking down a hallway or around a corner where you suspect there will be enemies, prime your weapon before you jump out in the open. You will have the advantage of surprise and like Bak said usually you can get the frag and retreat back and the enmy has no ieda where the shot came from.

Sure you may walk a little slower in the process, no big deal its better than running all the way back from respawn. Plus its great to jump around a corner and see someone like twisted knifing a team mate... just move the red dot over to that spies body, release your weapon and watch as the carcass begins to rott on the groud before you. I have some great screen shots of enemy spies' brains splattered up against the wall if anyone is interested I think I may make a collage to share with all, Frag, Twisted, Silver.. and many more famous celebrities included.. hehe

Sniping advice? I think I may have some of that.

Know the map well, know the likely paths that the enemy will be taking to the CP and pay attention to them.

Its been said before and I will say it too, Keep moving, if you stand still your dead.

Change positions often, this may not be easy in some maps, but if they are looking for you where you were last at, its easy to pop out and snipe them again.

Watch for spys! Your team may have a solid defence, but a spy can cause tons of trouble. A sniper often can get a feel for the flow of the game, who on his team is what class and how they like to play. You can often spot spys coming in and you should be good at snapping off quick shots to kill them before they toss that primed grenade at you that they are sure to be carrying.

Lots more on spys in the spy spotting thread.

Last point is to use cover effectivly, dont stand out in the open to snipe, pop out from behind something and take your shot then get back to cover. If they dont know where you are they cannot take you out.

I am sure that there are lots of other points to ponder, but this is a start.

We should get some of the good snipers like MR. Gibs or Snakeyes to give us some tips.

Sorry Dgenr8, I have to casually disagree with what you said below -->

"... just move the red dot over to that spies body, release your weapon and watch as the carcass begins to rott on the groud before you."

I'd just run over, sit on the poor sod, and crowbar him to death! That way i'd also get the 1.50 kill skill too! LOL!

Munkeyeye,
I agree with you 100%! but do you know how hard it is to get Twisted or Frag to feign death in front of a sniper? But when given the opportunity for the crowbar death, I make sure it is a very slow and painful death. I want them to remember the mistake they just made. PLUS as an added bonus its usually easy to pick them off a second time as they are the disguised friendly Demoman charging at you 20 seconds later hehe
