Does your job suck, do you hate your customers, well time to time I do. In my line of work we fix ppl's domestic water systems. I pretty much work in the shop and see alot of older folk that are do it yourselfers wanting me to help explain every aspect of thier water system. For the most part I dont mind doing that but the part that really bites is most of these ppl have been trying to fix thier water probs for days, havent showered in days, have the worst case of MOSS mouth imagineable. So lets hear your sob storys.

well, mine's worse by far. as many of you know, i work for a call center for AT&T cable.. which means i take calls from people that can't pay their bills and want to know why we disconnected them. this of course means that these people are grungy, hick-type folks that dont' have any money. (or they're old and senile). so anyway, i get these people that call, and they're old, and they gasp for breath, and kinda have these little moans coming from their mouths.. i call this sex-breath. i really dont mind it if i can picture a really hot chick on the other end-but this is a rare occasion. usually it's an old, whiny-voiced woman, and the picture is just hideous... ok, so beat that one..

Well, I used to work in general tech support for a college... just answering the phone has sorta like playing Russian Roullette... (with a .45 automatic, LOL) there's a pretty good chance the call is gonna ruin your day... "Yeah, my dad gave me his old computer and I want to get it set up..." I then ask what operating system are we talking about... "Windows"... I say what version... "3.-something"... DOH!

Or my personal favorite... it was an Acer P75 with 8MB RAM... I had 4 different people call and ask if I could help them set it up... I got to tell each individual one that no, that POS is not going to work... Each person had given it to their friends since it was useless, at least I could trace it's history

I can't find the cartoon, but it reminds me of "Dogbert's Tech Support"
A user calls in and starts saying "Hello, I..." Dogbert says "Shut up and reboot."
Then the caller starts saying "Hey, it work...." Dogbert says "Shut up and hang up."

That's so true!

I work at the Networking Help Desk here at school. Almost every call can be solved once you eliminate the PEBCAK and id10t errors. Professors are dumber than I though could be humanly possible when it came to computers. But, there are the students who put ZIP disks in backwards and can't figure out why Tech Support is pissed at them, or why they don't get their disk back. I guess it's better than the woman who dropped her laptop and wondered if we could take a look at it. It sounded like a box of LEGOs when you shook it. We recommended getting a new one, and to not hold it by the screen half anymore.

Why can't I have people like you on the phone when I call? The last time I called customer support, the call ended up with the service person saying "I think you know more on this situtation than I do, so you'll probably do a better job fixing it than I will"... click. That was fun.

I also currently work as tech support for our global firm. the main area I "specialize" in is VPN, we have several different ways to connect to our network remotley and none are diffucult. when we assign users temporary laptops so they can work from home or take it with them on business trips, the local IS department explains to them what they need to do to connect. last week about 2 minutes before I was to go to go home I get a call from a woman who cant connect, so being the nice guy I am I preceded to walk her through the configuration to see what she has wrong, well come to find out everything was set up right so I was stumped, finally I asked her is she was connected to the remote LAN, and she said yes I think so. I then asked her if she had a phone line plugged into the laptop and she said no. needless to say I was immediatly pissed off. I told her to plug in a phone line then I walked her through the connection process and low and behold she connected fine and everything was working. all this wasnt the worst part of the call, that came next when she asked me "Do i have to dial in everytime I want to access the network then?" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just wanted to yell into the phone "are you F**king kidding me?" she was an actuarial consultant which means she probably makes close if not over $100,000 dollars a year, and she was an Idiot that call took almost an hour because of her ignorance.

Sorry guys, but I hate tech support peeps. Most of the people I have spoken to were complete idiots. A couple months ago, my cousin's comp was messed up. So I went over to his house to see if I could do anything. Something seemed to be sucking away at this powerhouse's virtual memory, which was causing it to run slower than my old p133. Since it was over my head, I decided to call the dell tech support.

Here is what our conversation was like
"Uh hi, my dell computer seems to be having som-"
"Please wait while we put you on hold. A dell employee will speak with you soon"
*20 minutes of muzak later*
"Hi my name is Bill, how can I help you today"
"Uh...my dell is really messed up. Something seems to be sucking away at the virtual memory, at first I thought it was a virus, but I have norton antivirus 2000, so that is very unlikel-"
"Oh norton antivirus? Yes, call them they can help you."
"Wait but-"
"I'm sorry sir, but I can't help you anymore"
"You can't help me anymore?? You didn't even help me at all!"
"Sorry, just call symantec, they can help you."
"Can you give me a phone num- *Click*"

After some searching, I found the symantec help line, so I called them:
"Hi, my name is Lisa, how may I help you?"
"Yes, I bought a dell pentium 4 about a week ago, and there seems to be a problem with it. Something is sucking away at the virtual memory"
"I'm sorry sir, but this is Symantec, we are not affiliated with dell, you will have to call them."
"But I already did, and they told me to call y-"
"I'm sorry but I can't help you"
"But-"
*Click*
Stupid tech support!

That is nothing,
When i was still on AOL and my internet got messed up so i couldn't conect to anything. I reset my computer to the orignal factory settings and that didnk't work. I finally called AOL.
After 3 weeks of 3 hour phone calls every night, they still showed me nothing and all they were was repetitive. After talking to one of the head people there they told me to call Compaq. I did and they did all the test that compaq gave me they said that is all they can do. So i called AOL back, i told them about what compaq did then they gave me to a higher power at AOL. They told me it must be Microsoft's fault. Well i didn't want to spend the $ that Microsofts sucks out of you.
I said $#%# IT and deleted every thing and put everything to Compaq's original factory delete everything on disk and recopy it all back. I did that and it finally work.

No thanks to Compaq AOL or Microsoft.

At my job, in the span of just a few minutes, I can get verbally sh!t upon for everything from Ralph Nadar to George W. Bush. Even though I only call people that have given money to the place I work at least once before, that may have been in back in 1981 and now they work for Chevron or whatever. Then there's the people who, understandably, just don't want to deal with a phone call and, well, can't seem to find a tactful way to tell you ("Don't f*cking call back!"... then a week later "Oh, I thought you were the collection agency, I'm so sorry," etc.)

It was way way worse last year when I was going door-to-door. I came across everything--dogs chasing me down the street,
PEOPLE chasing me down the street, people trying to get me to stay in their house, cops, just about everything. It was kind of fun in some ways.

I umpired baseball for 7 years---now that was a job where you dealt with some 'rude customers'. I once had to get a police escort out of town to avoid a mob that had formed in the parking lot to wait for me & my partner after a 5th grade game!

Whybkuul, when you say ATT cable do you mean television or hi-speed internet? You weren't one of those @Home/ATT phone people were you? That was insane dealing with them last Nov./Dec.

well, recently i've changed markets (meaning that i take calls from a different area now- central california rather than salt lake city calls) so i handle cable tv, and HSD BILLING concerns.. if it's service-related, i just pawn it off onto the tech division.. heh

All I have to say is that if it wasn't for the long hours and low pay, I would get out of the business I am in.

I've only had one job in my life, that was delivering papers, and when I was 9 or 10.

Gave up though, not really enough time, with sport, school, and all. Oh, and The Ville

bah I was one of the lucky ones to be on call back a few years ago when Worldcom's Frame Relay Network tanked. I got no sleep for a week and got to know the Worldcom techs by first name.

But I would have to say the best is the greatest classic of all.

Hello
Yes can I help you.
Yes I was booting up my PC when it stop and says please remove disk and hit any key, what does that mean.
Do you have a floppy in your floppy drive.
Yes.
Take it out and hit any key.
Ok I took out the floppy, but what is the any key.
Just hit any key on your keyboard.
Any key, but I don't see a key called that.
Hit any key, example return, space bar or any other key.
Ooooohhhhhh ok I did that. Ok it is booting up now thank you.
