I ran across this picture and I can tell you that if I ever drive through Alabama I am not ever going to exceed the speed limit, its not worth the risk.

I am afraid of Alabama. There are parts and people that look like they are straight out of Deliverance. I'm with you on being careful in that state, JD.

I bet most here won't even get the Deliverence remark....

"Now let's you just drop them pants." ... "That's sharp. Bet it would shave a hair." ... "Take off that little ol' bitty shirt there, too." ... "Did he bleed?" ... "Them panties. Take 'um off." ... "Hey, boy, you look just like a hog." ... "Come on, piggy, give me a ride."... "Looks like we got us a sow here, 'sted of a boar." ... "I bet you can squeal like a pig." ...

"This corn is special, isn't it?" ... "Corn, corn. I love good corn." ... "That's the darndest-looking cucumber you ever seen." ... "That cucumber is a champion!"

I bet you are right!

I mean, when the name Bubba was suggested for the mascot, I commented that Bubba was not a good name because it reminded me of backwoods, dirty jean overalls, men with one tooth, and squealing pigs. No one seemed to get it then.

I think you just described over half the make population of Alabama, and most of them are in law enforcement.....

I've never gotten a speeding ticket outside of the city. Of course i'm usually the second car in a pack not the first. It seems the only way to get an escort over 100 is to draft.

Yeah, you're right, a lot of people aren't gonna know deliverance... I barely know about it, never seen it...

The only place I know to be afraid of cops is a small town about 10 miles from here... we know people who have gotten tickets for going 32 in a 30 zone... that's the same town where a cop once chopped down pine trees from the roadside and sold 'em on the side for X-mas trees... he's no longer in the field of law enforcement, strangely enough.... I've had the cops there follow me for about 5 miles and then go back to the town... no idea why he pulled out and followed me *shrug*

Nah, I think it was because I had a stop sign stuck in my bumper and was driving in the ditch throwing empy beer bottles at the cars on the road.

I only have one story about Alabama. I was travelling with my Drum Corps and we stopped at the most ghetto gas station I'd ever seen. It was in Fort Payne, AL. I saw some guys with a National Guard Humvee, a state trooper, a biker on a huge chopper, and two hookers sitting on a full size van seat having a conversation at about 3 in the morning. Inside there were slot machines all over the walls. (and condom machines that would make a sailor blush). In the bathroom there was a slot machine too, and the soap container was one of those 10 gallon pump bottles of Go-Jo Orange. The doors to the bathroom were like saloon doors. Outside the gas station, there was a burned out wreck of a 1930ish Ford Tudor Coupe, on blocks of course.

Wow, sounds like my kind of place!

Actually, I was in a place that is of similar "quality"... "The Crow Bar" in Toma Wisconsin... a definite biker bar... As we (a group of college kids) was walking down the street, there was the bar with about 8 cycles out front... when we were a block away, two guys came flying out the front door fighting, they continued their struggle in the street as we walked into the place... the people in the bar had lots of black leather, were hairy as hell, and the men were even worse! The toilet facilities were either the sink in the men's room, or the alley out back... (the alley was not a pretty sight) women didn't have anything. The band had 3 members... a drummer wearing bib-overalls and nothing else visible (no shoes, either), the guitar guy was wearing green and yellow Zubaz pants and a T-shirt that said "The Bomb" on it. The other singer guy was wearing some sort of blanket-poncho thing...

Tap beer was 75 cents, so naturally we stayed!

***EDIT***
Actually, any place with 75 cent beer and the name "Crow Bar" would be a natural gather point for Ville regulars... hmmmm....
