A CCNA curriculum will provide a decent foundation in TCP/IP routing and switching. Whether this is a good thing depends on what you plan on doing "when you grow up". If you're a techie type who lives online, then this might be right up your alley. A CCNA certification doesn't mean squat to a college but future employers might be impressed if you got yours in high school.

My take is that going for a CCNA is a bit more "exclusive" than, say, the Microsoft MCSE certification. MCSE's are a proverbial dime-a-dozen.

It is a good class. I took the first semester, but haven't had the time to go back. Subnetting was kind of a pain. I really didn't go to become certified. I just enjoy learning new things.

I don't know about a 2 year program, because you should be able to knock it out in two weeks. But that depends on your level of knowledge at this point. Taking the time to go through a class may give you a firm foundation and better understanding then the rest of us who work in the Tech sector and are pressured to get every Cert in the World in two days.

I agree with Warhammer completly. A CCNA would mean a little more than an MCSE to an employer, simply because it is a focused set of skills. You would have better knowledge with Routers, Switches, Teir Networking, Security, and the list goes on.

Even if you dont use it, your not throwing anything away because that would be an awsome oppertunity. I wish that was offered when I went. I had to go to school on the weekends to get my certs in high school.
