I use my PC for games and browsing the internet and of course other things as well like digital imaging etc. But, no graphic designing or anything to that extreme.

I dunno I am kinda leaning towards an AMD this time. I will wait to see what the reviews say about the conroe.

I will find the links with the speed tests.

Conroe hands down 20% faster than fx62. That is not even with the extreem chip.

if you do any video editing or encoding work I would stick with Intel. I haven't had much luck with AMD.

I have two 2.4ghz machines both intel and AMD. My Intel will encode the same video about 20% faster.

But for surfing the web, playing games and maybe looking at pictures. I think your ok either way you go.

Everything I am reading about the new Intel chip is hands down blowing away everything AMD has out. But AMD just dropped their prices big time.

But they also took over ATI as well.

BUMP/UPDATE

Well I did a total overhaul of my PC and this is what I am working with now.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
Asus PB5 ATX motherboard
1GB crucial RAM
XFX Nvidia 7900GT
XION II case <<<clicky
Antec Neo HE 550W powersupply
WD 120GB HD 7200rpm (primary)
WD 160GB HD 7200rpm (slave)

so much better quality and cheaper when you build your own

well he's an idiot because you get more bang for your buck with the core2duos.

rebel, those specs seem good, I'd get 2x1gb sticks, but i can see why you're going with the 1gb the way ram prices are now. what type and speed of ram is that? you want ddr2 in a core2duo setup.

Well for the next 2 years I would say, AMD will be Intel's bitch. This time around Intel is putting it to AMD hard. And when I mean hard, I mean Hard.

Expect a major price drop on Intel as Intel releases their quad core kentsfield ship in November and we should have some nvidia chip sets by then.
