listen to footsteps and gunshots, that gives out position of the enemy. try using "stopsound", it clears out all that background noise

actually this is the best advice ever.

my cousin who is one of the best gamers i know told me this when i first started out with counter strike.

also...buy a good quality headset.

my cousin and i for the longest time used sony studio headsets and you could hear everything from the otherside of the map it was crazy.

Remain calm and do not panic. I can't stress that enough.

Totally agree...
Don't panic....

You'll know when you have reached the seventh level of Nirvana when your heart doesn't pound any more, as you race to cap that last flag....

My stopsound button is one of my favorite buttons besides the left mouse button lol. It helps a lot, but they took that away in source. Practice will get you better, just don't sweat it when you die a lot, it happens. If you get frustrated just leave the server, stop playing the game a bit to calm yourself down, it helps.....believe me lol. Listening to sounds and looking at your map are just as important as what you see right in front of you because a lot of times you can tell when enemies are climbing ladders or priming nades or when they're in the building next to you and stuff like that. And if you've got specific questions about gameplay, post the question, someone...or everyone will answer lol. Oh and play around with your sensitivity, sometimes I don't feel like I can swing my gun anywhere so I increase the sensitivity by like .1 or .2. And try the mouse_fix program, it takes away the acceleration for your mouse, CAL players use it, it's required to play in CAL I think.

When in doubt panic.
