change name

I know that this may well be the most mindless question ever asked. How do I change my name on TFC. I go into my half-life customizer and it stays there but not when I go back into TFC to play on-line.

enter your console and type

name "yournamehere"

and hit enter and that is it

Tks. I tried that before and I lost the entire console which is now ok. I will try it again.

OK I tried it with and without quotation marks and no change.
enter console
type in name
hit enter
??????

When you do it in customize make sure you click your mouse on OK.That should work bro

Said ok in the customize still no change. When I first sign on all the server info etc. comes on and I see my true name, welcome <TVB>Blue Ruler then during play I hit the tab key and it says Blue Ruler without the tag. If I make NO changes and then later check my event history I see that it says that I changed my name from <TVB>Blue Ruler to Blue Ruler, its like a ghost doing it.

You can also go into config in your TFC folder and type in your tag before your exisiting name. Then hit save.

Is your config set to read only?
Make sure you click on properties first and if it says read only change it to Archive.
You can change it back after your done.

Since were on name changing, one time i tried to change my name but still using my Clan tag and it came out like this {! Does anyone know why this happened?

Best way to change your name is from the console.

pull down the console and type the following: name "newname

Take note that you use only one " at the beginning of your name, then you can use special characters, spaces and all that.

Your other option is to change your name in your config.cfg file in your TFC folder.

A few other possibilities is that your config file has been set to disable writes or you added the name command into one of your config files so long ago that you forgot all about it.

I have my name command bound to a key so I can easily switch back if I'm playing incognito.

Here is something else kind of related sometimes when you have you config file set to read only You may not be able to get into a server. This happens often to me when trying to get into ville servers so I just took the read only attribute off.

I GOT IT !!!!!!
For anyone else who may have the same problem read on. I checked config file and it was on archive. Tried the console with one " mark only. Neither of these worked. Went into my half-life icon on desktop and checked the customize section and the name read as it should be. Went back onto desktop and into the TFC icon: 1. right click 2.open 3. multiplayer 4. customize 5. change your name as you would like. 5. click done and thats it. Magic ghosts all gone.
