Hey guys, here I am once again with a problem, only this time its not on my computer! yay! It's on my wife's. I'm in kind of a rush right now so i'll break down what happened. IT doesnt start up. It powers on, lights fans everything. But it doesnt boot, just a blank screen like there's no video card ( i did try another video card to see if this was the problem and it is not). Think its a total HD failure? I'll post specs later, gotta go.

Blank screen can't be an hd failure, because the bios would still show up on the screen.

I'm inclined to say its something in your monitor or connection to the monitor if you've tried another video card.
Have you tried a different monitor?

my old PC did that. It was an Hp, and the problem was that the power thing had fried. LOL that probably doesn't help. But the same things that are happening to your wifes were happening to mine .

Well

- I'm pretty sure its not the power supply, if it was teh PSU, wouldnt it NOT start up? plus its a fairly new Antec, they're pretty dependable.

- There was one irregular beep the first time i started it up, then it looked like it was going to post, there was some writing on the screen, but it flashed off and restarted before i could see it.

- The monitor turns on, says: "no signal" and the menu button does NOT work i.e. it didnt come up.

-It wouldnt suprise me to be the motherboard, its pretty old, although it is a MSI.

- I dont have time to try another monitor right now as i'm heading off to work, but i will do that when i get off work. i'll let you know how it goes after that.\

thanks for all the help guys. If i cant get it fixed my monday, i'll ask my CIS professor on monday

My computer did the exact same thing a long time back. I remember the problem clearly, lights would come on, but it seemed it did not have enough power to actually boot up.

But...I cant remember what i did. Funny i remember the problem but not the solution.

yeah i know

Well its not the monitor I'm thinking its either the motherboard or the processor. For one the pc doesnt even seem to post when starting up. Nothing, just a blank screen, i didnt get any warning beeps afterwards. So i'm assuming its the mobo. any suggestions on how to test it?

*bump

So..are we settled on this being the motherboard? I'm 95% sure it is and I will be ordering a new one shortly ( a few days). So if anyone has any last hints or suggestions...now would be a great time to post them
