I have two cockatiels one is 3 and the other is almost 2 years old. I'm thinking their both male, but I'm not sure. Anyways today the younger cockatiel went crazy when I took the older one, and started biting me. I let them go on the floor and they were fine for 20 minutes. I heard them screaming and I immediately opened the door and saw the younger cockatiel attack the older bird, and my father.
May I also mention that the older bird is crippled. She/he cannot fly, or do the things they used to do. So obviously this made me and my family angry. Now I have them seperated in different cages while the younger one goes crazy. I'm starting to think that the younger one is getting in the stages of breeding, and wants the older one for purposes lol. But he is very violent, and I want to know if anyone who has these birds have had a similar case _________________

im not a vet or anything but i imagine that the older one is male and the younger one saw him as competition and attacked him and crippled him to the point that you described. You just happened to get in the way while they were in a frenzy....

A male will have brighter colors than a female. They will also work out an "Alpha order". This isn't normaly a life or death thing, but with the older bird being crippled it is cause for concern. Animals will sometimes kill a sick or crippled animal just because they can. I would keep them apart or a least watch them close. Good luck. _________________

Yeah, the older bird might have always been the Alpha, now the younger bird is stepping up and making sure the old bird knows it. Most animals are like that in packs, plus males always try to dominate. _________________

Males are the talkers and females don't talk umless you spend alot of time with them. Most of the time though females don't talk at all. Like was stated males are brighter colored and have a bigger black circle on the side of there head. . _________________ <eVa>Simpleman-V$=<RIP> |

If CycoMom or CycoDad wander these forums still they would be the ones to talk to. They have a TON of birds. _________________ P4E @ 4.00 Ghz, LeadTech 6800GT 420mhz/1.16Ghz, 1 gb Corsair PC 4400, Creative X-fi, Raptor

Thanks stutter!
I read through these forums before, and it pretty much answered my own question that he's being very dominant to the cripple because for whatever reason it's his mate/friend.
I have them back together, and he's leaving the cripple bird alone. However he's being territorial as usual.
I think I'm going to have to buy them a play gym to he can stop being so overactive.
Thanks again guys! _________________
