here's what my system has, and i spent about 1400 bucks on it:

2 Gigabytes of DDR 400 RAM (~200 $)
1 Dual Core Athlon X2 4400+ (2200 MGHz per core, ~500 $)
1 GeForce 7800 GTX (~500 $)
1 120 Gigabyte Western Digital 7200 RPM Hard Drive (~100 $)

and what ever windows operating system you have.

This set up allows me to play Half Life 2: Lost Coast at the highest graphics settings (full HDR enabled, 16x Anti-Aliasing & 6x Anisotropic Filtering, all other settings on highest) at a whopping 93 frames per second average.

In addition, thanks to the Athlon X2, i can do this while encoding video codecs, burning MP3's, or even run a copy of Everquest in the background while i play the game, and experience no lag as a result, so Multimedia wont be a problem for you with this system set up.

That is my suggestion.

2 200GB WD 7200 RPM SATA Hard Disks (~$200)
1 200GB WD 7200 RPM IDE Hard Disk (~$90)
1 80GB WD 7200 RPM IDE Hard Disk (~$60)
1 DVD-RW (~$40)
1 CD-RW (~$30)
1 Nividia BFG GeForce 6800 OC (~$400)
1 Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (~$200)
1 SurePower 600w Modular Powersupply (~$120)
1 Jet4 Copper Heatsink (~$40)
2 PCI Slot Fans (~$20)

Damn, you have a lot of hard drive space, BH... What do you do with all of it? It seems like it would be kind of loud with all those fans, too.
