so, I have been looking for a different type of game to play, and this seems to fit the bill, based on friends recommendations. Only, I have no idea where to start. Anyone else know what I mean?
I read the FAQ's, talked to some of my friends, and am still clueless.... hehe.
Trying to figure out if I can fit it into my schedule, so how much time is needed to play and advance in a minimum?
I like playing with friends also, why I like the ville. So... Is there any group of villens that play together? and would be willing to help a newbie out?
Also, I don't like the straight action player.... I like my gorge-type character - I like helping my team from behind the scenes... speaking of which, are there "teams" or groups? or is it solo action unless you get to know someone? oy vay.
Any tips, suggestions, recommendations, anything! they are ALL welcome _________________

WoW was made for both the hardcore gamer and the casual types. You can group with others or solo to advance in this game with any class. So you really dont need to worry about how much time is needed. Just as long as you are trying to advance when you are on the game you will be fine.
A few of us are playing on the server named Deathwing. On the Alliance side. Its a PVP server. We are in a guild called Legendary Souls. Our guild list shows 350 people but some have a few characters. I have 3 so im guessing around 150 people. Many people in the guild will help in any way possible. If you do decide to play dont hesitate to ask for help. They are a great group of people.
We also use voice communication software called ventrilo. You can download that for free if you decide to play. Most guilds/groups use it.
Sounds like you will like some of the support classes. Priests, Druids, even Paladins. But I would read the class descriptions on www.worldofwarcraft.com to see what feels right for you. After that ask about it here
Oh btw a few familiar names are over on the horde side that we have battled countless times. The Sajaks and Pete weber to name a few. Yeah I know, but they are fun to fight on WoW. I know they are aware of who I am. hehe _________________

I've also received two other game suggestions... COH and Guild Wars
I know the argument for WoW over Guild Wars, but considering either way I won't have much time, is Guild Wars a better choice? hmmm. decisions decisions....

I play/Played Guild Wars. Me and the bro started a guild...everyone stopped playing early summer . It kinda loses its 'fun factor' after awhile. but it was definetly worth $50 . The great thing about GW, there's no monthly fee. But it seems to be geared more towards PvP than RPG. Thats why I cant get back into it, I like the RPG aspect of the game so much, and it never changes. I've never tried WoW, or any other MMRPG for that matter. But i have considered trying one sometime soon (around Christmas). Let me know what you decide on Kahlan . _________________

Well Kahl i play both and here is what i think
COH: got really dull around the summer as there was not a whole lot of content and they took away a lot of powers and power sets that reall crippled the game, but when issue 5 (they call patches issues) they fixed all that, added more content, new powers, more missions, and fine tuned the graphics. COH is very very very easy to get into and has a very small learning curve. You can jump right in and in a week pretty much not act like a noob anymore...The problem with COH is that the content compared to WOW is not as great, and you might find yourself bored in 6 months and honestly that is one the largest draw backs to the game. Though i will say this, and anyone who disagree's with me just isn't trying, COH character design, costume design, power sets, and everything about creating your character is LEAP YEARS ahead of anything else out there. I have played the game since early beta and i have yet to see one toon look like me. Also another HUGE thing about COH is that its expansion pack COV (city of villians) is comming out on Oct 31st with free rates (if you have COH) so essentially just buy both games pay for a subscription to one and you get the other free so you get two games with one. Eventually i think around issue 6 or 7 in COH and issue 2 or 3 in COV the games will really start working with each other. Like i said ive played since beta and i am in a fantastic super group and have met some really nice people
WoW: I also play this game too...and at first i really really disliked it and you can ask silver as i bitched to him on a regular basis, but since i hit 60 and into my late 50's (the highest lvls in the game) i have really started to enjoy it. Though unlike COH and COV the learning curve for WoW is huge and will take you months to learn it all. Though WoW is very content heavy as there is always something to do...and i really do mean it...there is ALWAYS something to do and they seem to have a better grip on where they are going with the game and how they see the character fleshing out than do the creators of COH and COV. The graphics and art design at times will have you stunned as they have put a lot of work and time and effort into the design and feel of the game unlike COH which has improved but is no where near the quality of WoW
Its really a win/win situation as they both cost the same (well if you do COH or COV you get two games), but COH content is really something you might start getting frustrated with and bored with quicker...WoW is a very interesting game and very hard one to me to learn and takes a lot of time to learn, but not to have fun. As soon as you fire up both games you are going to have a blast and both are considerably easy to level up in and meet people (i am in Legendary Souls with Silver and Frag) and for most part in WoW the people are nice and that is the same with COH...it really depends in the end what you are looking for fantasy or super hero stuff...you can't go wrong with either. None of the above:
Everquest.
That's the only real RPG.

EQ was good. I really liked it through Scars of Velious.
Its not the same as it used to be... not even close.
I've played every one of these types of games except COH. From Meridian 59 to WoW. _________________

Yeah it's nothing like it was in the SoV days, however in my opinion it has really changed for the better.
There is LOADS of new content, and all kinds of cool stuff you can do.
It really is the best RPG experience you could have.

heh.
sooooo, the verdict seems to be WoW...
first I get Silver and Powder's high recommendations, then I go to work and get everyone I was working with talking bout it.... geez. so while they all play, they play on different servers...
question, if you have a character on a server, is it possible to move that character to a dif server without losing talents/skills/ whatever else I was reading earlier... _________________

yes and no
You can move servers...but blizzard predetermines what servers can change over and people from that server can only go to another all ready predetermined server and only that predetermined server.

With what little time I do have for gaming, and needing a break from STEAM grrrrrr, I have been messin with WoW for a little bit. I don't play on the same servers as everyone else does, it seems, but I do have a great time. Some of the people I play with I actually work with as well so it gives for some conversations at work.
The learning curve wasn't too bad to figure out but it did take a good week or 2. Finding the right group/guild to help out is a definate plus. I am on the Thunderlord server on the horde side, alliance sux . . . bur. The guild I am a part of is very similiar to TheVille as they are very family oriented and are very helpful when you ask for help. I am one of the guild leaders so and issues are dealt with swiftly, kinda like here. If you do go the WoW route and want a good group of people to run with ya then let me know, I have a few lower level characters that I wouldn't mind running around with you to help you level yourself up in a hurry. I also have a level 60 rogue for when those pesky alliance decide to get brave and act up when the lower levels are leveling up
The server name is Thunderlord. My game names are Vegassparky, Brn, Kameltoe, and Vegasshammy. The guild names are DEAD Sexy and DEAD Sexy Origins. I can get you into either one right away since I am a leader in both. BTW, the reason we have 2 guilds is we have filled up our 1 guild to the max, 500 members, and have started a second one. They both work together as one which is awesome. I hope to see you there before too long _________________

Eventually there will be a pay service to change servers. But when that is coming is unknown.
Forget going horde. I wish your guild was on Deathwing BRN so Frag, Powder and I can hunt ya down. hehe
Hey is your guild doing MC? I love that dungeon. We are in there twice a week.
Anyway... I always wonder, do any women play horde? Our guild has about 10-15 active. Two of them are officers in our guild. I crack up when I see one of them kick some horde rear. I especially love when some rogue tries to gank my fiance's warrior (gnome too) and she teaches them a lesson.
Well.. back to the subject Im sure you will find the best place to go Kahlan. Looks like you have some good people to go to. _________________

I was actually debating on getting WoW to try it out, a friend is giving me a 10 day trial key, I just need to get the CD's.
The question I have is about classess and professions, I played Star Wars Galaxies for almost 2 years (not sure why, I hated about the last year and a half) and unless you were one or 2 specific templates, your character was just worthless really. Is WoW balenced enough to the point you can be any class and still be an effective contributor? _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |

Yes. All the classes are good and can contribute to pvp, groups and raids.
You may encounter some classes are needed more than others at times. Like if a group needs a healer more because they already have enough damage classes for a dungeon.
Or maybe the group needs a tank like a warrior before taking another mage or warlock. Etc.
Also, each class has 3 ways to specialize their talents. So for instance you can have a number of druids and none may be the same. Im a priest. I used to be a shadow priest which is very strong in pvp and damage. I had most of my talent points in that tree. The others trees were discipline and holy. But recently my guild has been doing more dungeon raids so I changed my talents for better healing and mana regen at a cost.. my damage. I can still do damage but I lost a great deal of power and a couple spells since I focused in healing. But now I can heal much better than a shadow based priest. Im now a mixture of Discipline and Holy.
My fiance is a protection spec warrior. Some warriors spec in fury or arms. Mages have fire, ice and arcane. You also dont have to pick one or the other you can spend your points and do a little of all 3 if you wish.
Hope you follow me.
One of the great things about WoW is you are not stuck with your choices on the trees. You can't "gimp" your character. At at cost you can respec your talents. The price doubles every time you do it though so after about 5 or so it can get pricey. There is a max of 50 gold though. But that is expensive if you can't make up your mind hehe. _________________

was reading up on the priest, that would be the way I go if I do indeed go WoW, which I think I shall be doing.
for alliance, I've heard humans and dwarves are the best choices, which are you Silver?
and heard undead is best for horde.. doubt I will be going horde, sorry BRN maybe later after I learn the basics _________________
