Hey guys, well with college basically half a year away (senior right now) ive been looking into getting a laptop. Now ive been looking around and i think the best thing to go is with a Centrino M Processor, i hear its alot better than a Penium 4 price wise / weight / cooling. Was wondering what you guy had to say on the topic. Right now im looking for a laptop anywhere from $600 - $900 that would decently play HL2, Not looking for the top of the line but something to get the job done. If anyone has any realistic thoughts please let me know. Right now im looking into this one

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1512156&Tab=0&NoMapp=0

it looks like its nice, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

would you WANT to run HL2 off a Pent 1.6 with 512mgz?? and if your using it for collage try and get your parents to pay for it and get something UBER good like a ASUS Mayhem ^_^

OH!! and if a recruiter calls, tell him "I do NOT in any way have any intention of thinking about joining the military, Iraq messed the Army up UBER bad and stop calling me, put me on your do not call list."

or do what my friend did and just say "Sorry man I'm gay." lol

You should get a Pentium 4 or even better an AMD (personal favorite). As you will have it plugged in most of the time anyways (just guessing) it is the route you should go with. The Pentium M is made for battery life not for all out performance.

I have a Zd8000(HP.com) and it runs HL2 like a champ but I think it is a bit out of you price range at around $1,400

but after reading around i thought that the Centrino was real good for its power wise, ex it might be 1.6ghz but it runs like a p4 at 2.8ghz. . . could someone clear this up?

You are correct sir. Pentium M's perform well above the ghz rating. Many people look at the speed and thinks it has to be slow. Dell and alienware use centrino chips in their top of the line machines....they can't be that bad.

Heh ya, well i dont need a good machine, just a decent one that will play hl2 and still let me do basic things like coding (Java, C++, ETC) and internet basically. Nothing too fancy. Just something average.
